Still doesn't make the age limit "racist". It would be racist if they said black players had to be 20 but we will take all the whitey's we can as early as we can.

O'Neal is fucking idiot. Maybe if he would have went to college he could have learned about what "Racism" is and what some of his people had to go through. I could think of a few worse things than being the big man on campus for 2 years.

I don't care about them skipping college altogether - I care about them staying in college for only a year or so and then bolting. If they used the same system baseball used, I'd be happy.

I don't know. The NFL has loosened its restrictions while the NBA wants to implement one that hasn't existed?

That big center Swift, and that guy drafted #2 for the Pistons last year was under 20 wasn't he? Both currently suck but they are both white.

uh, yeah, and that has nothing to do with this discussion. The age limit doesn't force you to go to college.

It has everything to do with this conversation. As I pointed out, basketball is the only sport where people wring their hands and fret about high school players skipping college to go straight to the NBA. No one worries about hockey, baseball and football players' academic futures.

Your post made the point that baseball and hockey have minor league training systems so the players are prepared by the time the make it to the big leagues, but that's only athletic preparation. Why does no one play the "save the children" card on those guys?

The system in baseball prohibits someone from leaving before their Jr. year is over if they do choose to go to college.

well really its a bit off topic as to the discussion, but I don't think people could care less anymore about athlete's going to college for an education. That sounds sad I know, but most people want them there for athletic reasons. Truthfully I wouldn't want an age limit for that reason. For starters its a good idea for the NBA. The play there has deteriorated to nearly unbearable. In college they play more of a team game. The coach has more control of the team than in the pros. So they are forced to learn a team system. But players are going straight to the NBA now based on potential and not on ability and the game as a whole at that level is poor. Now notably an age limit would help to improve that situation. It would weed out more of the poor players and allow the decent ones to get better before entering the draft. Whether that be in college or the developmental league. The college players would slightly benefit more fore 2 reasons. 1 - they get more nation media exposure than the NBDL and 2 - if it turns out they'll never be an NBA caliber player, they'll have some kind of educational footing to stand on. As far as baseball and hockey goes, I know a lot of pro baseball players go to college for the previous reasons I mentioned. All don't but GENERALLY its the ones that would have trouble getting passing grades anyways. I don't know as much about hockey, because I don't follow it as closely, but I do know they have a deep college league as well. I'd rather them ALL have more education as a foundation when they go into the league. Maybe you don't hear about it as much because while there are so few players that jump straight from high school to the NHL or MLB. That would be my first guess. Furthermore right now this is a major topic for basketball so baseball and hockey aren't the one center stage. So you'll hear more about it with the NBA than you will those two.
