Its guys like this that sicken me over the use of that word. Every time something affects them in any way they use the race card. If African Americans wanted equality they'd stop other African Americans that are devaluing the word racism by using it in every situation they disagree with.

Yeah, that's kind of shitty. I like O'Neal so I hate to hear him say that. He makes a good point with the army thing, though. However, the NBA has the right to do whatever the hell they want to, in my humble fucking opinion.

So, let's leave race out of it and address his question: why is no one concerned about high schoolers jumping straight to hockey or baseball? Why is basketball the only sport where people get panic-stricken about the idea of players skipping college?

For baseball a lot of players go early, but it's pretty rare to see an 18 or 19 year old starting. Sure there's a few like B.J. Upton for the Devil Rays, but they get to develop in Rookie League, and A Leagues, so it's not like they are totally unexperienced when they get to the pros. If you are 19 and playing in the Major Leagues you are ridiculous and usually ready for the challenge like Furcal was. What the NBA is doing is drafting these kids really high and then they aren't doing anything for 4 years. O'Neal sucked in the league till about 2000. Kobe was pretty awful to at first. LeBron is one of the only one's who was ready to leave High School. Howard is decent but could you imagine him after 2 years in college. He'd have a lot more fundamentals. Also, the thing about High School kids going straight to the pros that is different from any other sport is the fact that you can see how the NBA is suffering in its actual play on the court. They don't know how to pass to a teammate or play defense to save their lives. And if you think the NBDL is a Development League you are kidding yourself

The only point I am in favor of is his relationship about being a soldier at 18 but not a NBA player. Seems kind of hypocrytical.
You would think the players already in the league would be in favor of a age limit as the youngsters getting drafted and sitting on the bench are taking older players jobs.

I can't think of any whiteys who've come out that early, so whether or not it's racism, it could be considered a racial topic.

Baseball and hockey both have a minor league system that allows players to develope before going straight to the bigs. Generally it takes you longer to reach the pros in those two sports than it does football or basketball. Players will have the option of playing in the NBDL straight outta high school for 2 years and then going to the NBA draft. So its nothing to do with college. Oneal is just ignorant... maybe he shoulda went to college.
