Shinn never had to "market a team" here. It was sellouts from day one until he fucked everything up. He had the best market in the NBA. If the idiots that run New Orleans decide to unplug the money machine, like they may with the Saints, Shinn will be really screwed then. There he'll be in the smallest, poorest market in the NBA where the people don't give a shit about basketball. They were 28th in attendance last year with 1500-2000 giveaways per game, if that tells you anything. It'll serve that sawed-off son-of-a-bitch right.

Maybe they could move the team to Puerto Rico

Hmmmm, how about Mexico City :) ? ? ? ? Doesn't the NBA still want to put a team there eventually? Or has that idea died out  ? ?

I would think that IF the Hornets were going to move(and that's a really big if), there are four or five cities in the U.S. that would support them and make a lot more sense logistically than Mexico City or Puerto Rico.

Kansas City and Oklahoma City both have arenas that are looking for major tenants. Since Shinn would probably sell the team rather than move them again, St Louis is a possibility. I think the league would like to get to Las Vegas too someday, but the Maloofs would be more likely to move the Kings there(which would open up Sacramento to a "build it and they will come back" scenario).

I don't buy that for a second, but I bet the NBA would support that.

I don't think he'd necessarily to it willingly, but I would bet the league would "strongly encourage" him to do so.

I doubt you will ever see a pro team in any sport in Las Vegas.
