After a little hiccup by both teams the matchup that looked destined a couple of weeks ago is upon us. The Celtics are going for their second title in three years and 18th overall. They are making the Finals for the 21st time in Franchise history, which means they've only lost in the Finals three times. Pretty amazing history there.

On the other side we have the second-most decorated franchise in the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers. They are the defending NBA Champs and have won 16 titles (10 in LA) and are making their third Finals appearance in a row (31st overall.)

The Lakers clearly have the best player. If Pau Gasol is the second best player in this series the Celtics are in trouble. However, the Celtics have the best point guard, by far. Who on the Lakers will guard Rajon Rondo? Will Kobe have to do it? That could tire him out on the offensive end if he has to chase Rondo all night.

The Celtics still have some bigs, but the Lakers are much better down low than they were in 2008. Although Andrew Bynum hasn't contributed much thus far. The Lakers have an older Ron Artest, will he be able to keep up with Pierce if Kobe is on Rondo?

There should be some intriguing matchups in this series.

Lakers Vs Celtics was the first great authentic 5 on 5 videogame basketball game. I have fond memories of it on my Genesis.

Maybe a top ten rivalry in any sport. Teenagers like me in the late 70's and early 80's probably thought the Lakers and Celtics were the only teams ever in the playoffs. Celtics in 6

Definitely it's one of the best rivalries ever. It is a matchup of the two most decorated franchises in the NBA, and the two have plenty of history with each other. Even going back before Bird and Magic's battles. I didn't realize this was the third year in a row that the Lakers had been in the Finals either, I guess I forgot after how badly the Celtics dispatched them two years ago. That sixth game was brutal and looked like it might damage Kobe's legacy at the time.

Two years later and no one remembers, rightfully so. Kobe is staking his claim towards being one of the best players to ever play this game. I will never put him ahead of Jordan, but he's got a shot to win more championships. Definitely going to get more overall points, not that that means a lot.

Against Phoenix Kobe averaged 33.7 ppg, 7.2 rpg and 8.3 apg. Wonder who is going to be able to slow him down on Boston.
