    Hey Larry..........

Explain a few things to me.

    1) Why did charlotte.com change server software last year?
    2) What happened that caused everyone to leave charlotte.com
    3) How could charlotte.com attract all the FNZ, news and other sports celebs, then after the software change, loose everyone?

I enjoyed BSing with all the radio and tv celebs. Charlotte.com was great for years, then it went to shit. WHY?

    1) Ask LarryD . . . I Can't answer that one

    2) Everybody had to sign up for a new password & ID at the new board when it came up; Some people had the old site address bookmarked also. I don't think it took them to the new CLT.com board when it went live. Thus many people got lost and never found us again :( . . .

    3) Most of the FNZ crew (Gary Williams, Station Mgmt., Jim Noble) still checkout the board except Packman; said he had login problems and never bothered to come back. They have all been invited to this board, but nobdy has bit yet :( . . .

it wasn't charlotte.com's decision -- that was a knight ridder corporate decision. frankly, they don't know shit about message boards or building community. and they don't want to.

i started the first board in charlotte back in feb. 2000 for march madness. it grew into thousands of members and flourished. then, when we were sucked away from being part of the observer into the newly created knight ridder digital company, they homoginized ever KR newspaper website -- hits took a serious nosedive because the software (for the site, not to mention the boards) sucked. it was slapped together too fast. they've been trying to fix it ever since.

i was told that the "new" board wold just be a temporary fix, but we were losing members left and right because of the shitty software -- it wasn't built for a message board community, it was built for q&a for support. it was a cheap solution that i had no input on -- all decisions were made out in san jose and shoveled on to us. we had to handle the months of complaints.

cutbacks came in a few rounds with our staff trimmed to barebones, operationally speaking. they cut us out from working nights and weekends thinking that a "national" desk could post all the weekend updates.

basically, they took our site from us.

    it sucks.

we were one of the best in the country before that happened.

what a difference a year makes.

get everyone to come over here. we can rebuild it over here. it will never happen over there. they won't commit the manhours to keeping the boards going over there. nobody from charlotte.com checks the boards as far as i know. they don't have the time. they are more trouble than they are worth -- that's why boards will be closed down over there.

Sounds like a soap opera with a bad ending.

I've always wondered what happened. Thanks

  6. It worked out pretty well for everyone in the long run.

It never bothered me at all that Larry was the one running the show for the Niners board, but it did kinda stink being under the O's/K-R's thumbs.

This board has carried over the main community and cusa-talk.com has boomed since then (we're now on a dedicated server doing around 50 GBs of bandwidth usage per month, over 1,000 users). We even attract some of the "celeb" folks, though they are much more hesitant to post (poor Mike P.).

I think the end result has been beneficial.

I sincerely hope that those racist assholes who trolled Charlotte.com don't come here. I know you frown on banning Larry, but those morons would be the best candidates for it.

what would be really cool is if we drug them all over here - and then Larry can ban everyone of the dumbasses.

Its been too long since we got to watch Larry break out a can of whupass.
