They've dumped Lofton, Rameriez, and Sauerbeck so far, ESPN Insider says they're trying to trade Kendall and Giles to the Padres, and are shopping Benson to several teams.

hell no yinz. whats your take? you are a fan of the Pirates. I never was, I was speaking as a former disgruntled employee. Are you not pissed they have a brand new stadium and still aren't keeping players, and blowing the team up? Do you not think the management has been piss poor since the teams of Bonds and Drabek??

 

I have actually become quite used to mid-season trades for so-called prospects that never pan out. I am also used to pissing away millions on winter signings of over the hill veterans that more often than not never play a full season or at all. Since 1992 the Pirates have not contended, why do you think Leyland left? He loved Pittsburgh, he still lives there and is a forward scout for the Cardinals so he still goes to all the games, I've run into him a few times. He left because he was tired of the constant rebuilding, that's all they ever do is re-fucking-build. If their goal is to build a team that owns the basement I'd say they've built a heck of a team. Everytime they get a couple players they can build a team around they trade them away for "prospects". They are still the greatest team of all time though.

 

Latest rumor, I repeat, this is just a rumor. The Rooney family (yes the one's that own the STEELERS) may be interested in purchasing the Pirates. They had expressed interest in 1996 but passed on the deal and let gay-boy McClatchy buy the team. I hope this happens but I am not going to hold my breath. I think this rumor may have started because of the Rooneys recent cash infusion that enabled the Pirates to stay in compliance with Major League Baseball's debt/equity ratio.
