Hmmmmm, didn't this guy push for a new ballpark saying [adlib] 'We need a new stadium with more skyboxes/clubseats in order to remain financially competitive' ? But since they've been at PNC PARK, the team still sucks and they are letting go of their better players . . If I was a Bucs fan, I would demand a refund on my season tixs   . . .

yep sds, that is what started my rant. they got a tax funded stadium to keep better players, yet they let the best player go yesterday in Ramirez. Now they are taking serious heat for it nationally and locally. Their management is a bunch of scumbags and finally people are realizing it, and hence why they suck every year. KC, Oakland, etc are getting it done on small payrolls.
    op ed today in Pittsburgh

it is funny that many organizations are continuing to try to develop young high school players when the statistics cleary show that they make it to the big leagues much less frequently than kids that played in college.

I just finised the book 'Moneyball' and you would think that more organizations would be open to the kind of thinking that billy beane incorporates there. the traditional scout has been replaced by statistics and data that show what a player is capable of. some of his disciples are filtering through baseball (in toronto and boston) but i would think organizations like pittsburgh, milwaukee, montreal, etc would be jumping at an opportunity to get on this bandwagon.

metro, not sure about your particular situation. but, as you know, professional baseball is much more political that people know or care to admit. it is a shame in pittsburgh. i grew up a pirate fan...but it gets harder and harder to pull for a team that you know will be out of the race before May 15.
