I believe what you say is true Sandman, but this move also take the hometown boos off Weinke which is what IMHO put Kerry C in the dumpster. I was at that game where everyone,it seemed, was calling for Steve B and booing the shit out of KC.

Just another point that IMO supports the wisdom of the Fox move...

The funny thing is that the guy who is starting (Peete) is not the guy that people would/will be screaming for if Winky faulters..

That's not funny. Not at all. Fasani's third string, and rightly so. Third stringers don't just up and start, especially as rookies.

Winky started as a rookie and our "team" we sucked his fault or not, we still went 1-15.

I'd bet you 1 million dollars that if Fasani started this year and started at least 15 games, we would be better than 1-15. :D

well for one, of course you would. You remember saying Jeff Lewis would take us to the Pro Bowl? I mean I backed the guy because he had talent but... :D

Anyway, this team is loads more talented than 1-15. hell they weren't 1-15 type talent last year, either. Any competent quarterback could captain this team to a few more wins.

That doesn't mean Fasani is ready, and that certainly doesn't change the fact that Fasani's our third string quarterback, and his chance is probably over for most of the year.

just when i thought i had heard it all, the thinking gets even more twisted. the scary thing is that folks are agreeing with ya.

    >> Fasani has now twice had the opportunity to come in late in the game and be a hero where as Weinke hasn't been allowed to finish a game.

the starting QB didn't get to finish a preseason game? conspiracy! this is JR's doing!

    >> The worst thing that could happen is that in our first home game, Weinke struggles through the first part of the game and the people in the stands start chanting "FASANI!!!" If this happens, Weinke's career with the Panthers is over. If, however, Peete struggles (be it this first game or second even), Fox can introduce Weinke in the mix giving HIM the opportunity to be the hero.

That just makes so much fucking sense. Fox is so worried that Weinke has been playing so fucking bad that he will probably struggle if he starts him. Yet Fox has so much confidence in him that he decides he'll start Peete who is certain to struggle and then let Weinke rescue the game and become the local hero and end the QB controversy. This is some diabolical shit.

    >> Yeah, well who is he emulating? He has never seen from the sidelines how someone else leads the team to victory when it gets hard.

So your suggesting that he watch Peete to learn how to lead a team? Get real. Hell, he coulda watched Fasani during the preseason and saw an excellent example of how to lead a team to victory when it gets hard.

    >> But I'm concerned he too comfortable out on the field and lacks the sense of urgency needed to, through leadership, bring everyone else's play up on the field.

Man, do I agree with ya there.

    >> When a team fails, the leader takes to blame.

I can agree with that too. Last year it was Seifert. This year it's probably gonna be Fox if the team fails, especially after this move.

    >> He can't bench the whole team so he makes an example.

Wrong. Fox benched the starting QB that was sucking. He wasn't getting it done. He's hoping Peete will. Simple enough and I think that's pretty much what Fox said.

    >> Personally, I believe Fox put Peete in because he DIDN'T want a QB controversy.

If he was so afraid of QB controversy, he could have simply not played Fasani anymore after the WA game or at least after the Dallas game when he didn't look so good. He certainly wouldn't have played Fasani the entire second half of the last preseason game after Weinke and Peete had stunk up the place and given him the opportunity to win the game and the hearts of the fans if he was afraid of QB controversy. Why didn't he keep Weinke in the game longer if he is our QB of the future? He only had a half-a-dozen snaps and you would think that you wouldn't want Weinke starting the season after finishing up on such an ugly note. Why didn't Fox give him a couple more series? Answer is simple enough. He had seen enough. Weinke sucked. Why didn't he keep Peete in for the second half if he wanted to avoid a QB controversy? He hasn't hardly taken a snap this preseason and everyone would have understood him wanting to get his second string QB ready for the season, especially in light of Weinke's play. Was it because he was sure that Fasani would come in and fail and thus end his QB controversy? Boy, if that was his thinking then he really fucked it up.

I don't think Fox has shown any fear of the fans or the media. He took this job didn't he? He also just made a shocking change in QBs that he surely knew was going to cause outrage among the fans and media. Nobody but Fox would have ever considered starting Peete. You have to hand it to Fox, he's got some large ones.

I'm not gonna bet on what Fox is gonna do. He has totally fooled me thus far and continues to mystify me. My guess is that he and Henning put a lot of thought into making the change, the consequences and effects it might have and how they were going to handle it with the press and the QBs. The current plan is to start Peete. If that fails we'll just have to wait and see what his next move will be. He may not know yet himself. But I just can't buy that this change was all calculated to set Weinke up as the hero or somehow avoid a QB controversy.

Not only does it not compute but such a plan has a chance in hell of working. When Peete fails and he will. Then if Weinke is promoted back to starter, he will fail again as he has done all preseason. If he comes in late in a game, he will fail. And the "stupid" fans will cry even louder for Fasani. We have seen him and we liked what we saw. Now dammit, give us what we want. Oh-oh-oh, maybe that's Fox's plan. To set Peete up for failure by not giving him enough reps in preseason for him to have a chance at success this next week. Then turn to Weinke who has been given his wakeup call and who will still fail miserably. Only to make us cry even louder for Fasani so that when he finally goes to him he can blame the fans and the media if Fasani doesn't work out. The man is cunning as a fox. This is some diabolical shit.

that's what i'm saying. why does it have to be anything more difficult than: weinke wasn't making the offense click like fox wanted, so he's letting someone else give it a shot.

we all agree that weinke wasn't making the offense click, right? i mean, the stats bear that out.

who cares if peete hasn't thrown a pass in a game in a couple of years? he deserves to have a shot to see what he can do.

if he stinks, then i'm sure fasini will get a shot -- as ill-eqiuiped as he may be. that's a guy who can let it all hang out; he's got nothing to lose. for a few games, i can see him being successful -- lots of QBs have come off the bench and put together a game or two of solid work.

won't it be more exciting to watch peete this sunday htan weinke? seriously? i mean, maybe it's the car-crash factor, but i want to see what happens moreso after this move.

  10. Where's MountainKing when we need him? Where's that washout of a Florida State center we had? THAT has been Weinke's problem!

Fasani might not be ready, but...if the crowd gets restless with Peete, I doubt they'll be chanting "Weinke..."...
