On Sirius Radio's mock draft, Darin Gantt picked Laurence Maroney for us. The Colts' beat reporter picked Maurice Drew (yes, in the first round)! :thud:

And Hodgy proceeded to tell us that Deangelo would be a terrible fit in Carolina. Thoughts on that?

Cause i do have doubt about Williams and id rather not fuck up another running back pick. Im hoping he can make the leap like LT but i have my doubts.

Im pulling for the USC trifecta

Hodge, like certain other people, is just hung up on LenDale White. That and I think his concussions are catching up to him because I've seen him make more odd statements lately than he usually does. Williams, if he were a couple of inches taller and the requisite number of pounds heavier, would be a near perfect fit for us. White has more power, but Williams is capable of making someone miss in the backfield, which is an underrated attribute for a back in this offense given that the defense always know where we're running to. White seems to be the choice, though, and it's not a bad one if he reacts to NFL coaching well. Whether or not he will is obviously my concern.

Well, 3 undersized running backs are better than 2!

Williams gives Henning/Skipper a brand of RB that they haven’t had since arriving here (unless you'd like to count Dee Brown or Jamal Robertson). He absolutely can make people miss in the backfield. From watching him last year, he has a tremendous burst. He is a very patient back. Waits on plays to develop.

It would give the backfield a bit more diversity. I have always liked what I have seen from Robertson in pre-season (though I have no illusions that he can/will be a feature back). Williams is about the same size as Robertson, and w/o question more skilled. Shelton is the wild-card here, and I think his development is dubious, at best. To me, if you are having trouble with taller backs running low, drafting a back built lower to the ground seems prudent.

I like White. He could pay dividends in this offense, but if Shelton is willing/ready/healthy, it would be a little redundant. If Foster and Shelton want to keep running like pine trees, then you've got to add a back that will either dedicate himself to running low, or is already programmed that way. We'll see. Just one fan's opinion.

I know people have compared White to Bettis but who would you compare Williams and Maroney to?

I really like Williams and from many interviews I get the impression that he has a chip on his shoulder. I'm always hearing he can't move the pile which worries me (if it's true) since we have such a knack for sending the RB right into our O-lines backside.

magnus disagrees, but I think that if you whited-out the uniforms, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Williams and Emmitt Smith. The more I compare clips of them, the more similar I feel they are.

I see a little LT in Williams as well as Emmitt.

Maroney reminds me of Eric Dickerson.

He does have a little of the “Matador” thing going that Emmitt did, but not as strong in the legs as Emmitt when driving through would-be arm tackles. I used to love watching Smith set a guy up with that step back and then drive forward right through whatever the defenders most unbalanced side was.
    He was brilliant at that.
