What about it doesn't sound right? The capo is just for changing keys.

    changing keys?

I have it over the 1st fret...all of the strings...that's how it works right? It doesn't sound right when I strum and I'm listening to it while I'm playing....it's off somewhere....

Yeah. Changing keys. The capo on the first fret lets you play, for example, a G# (A-flat) chord like a regular G-major because it sets the strings up 1/2 step. Play a G-major chord up 2 frets and you are actually playing an A-major.

You just gotta figure out how to adjust your guitar to the recording. Try to play along with the bass line without the capo and see where it leads you.

Don't use one and generally only know what I know from watching and fucking around. But thanks for asking this way...flattered. Math or maybe QCH might be the ones to ask I think.

I got it.....I was trying to play regular chords while the capo was on the 1st fret...so basically I have to move down a fret and play....got it

    just wondering, sav...

why are you messing with that capo anyways? are you singing and playing at same time and you need to be in a certain key?

did you try without the capo? do you sing? if so, are you a soprano?
    :p
