I got into this discussion quite a few times in my life.

It all depends if your view is biased or not. I'm anti-Christian and I've read a lot about the left hand path, and frankly, it's just music. You are rejoicing in the music.

Satanism is a philosophy. Disregard the movies and the books that make the subject popular. Anton LaVey even states in his bible that it's a philosophy. He created the rituals for sake of creating something visual. Visualizing your faith happening is the best approach to attracting more members.

The band is just a gothic band. Revelling in the darker aspect of religion. It's now more or less a trend to be a Satanist, or to have an interest in the dark arts.

It's practices like these, however, that influence stereotypical thoughts on Satanism and the rest of the left hand path.

Mind over matter......Shamans for tens of thousands of years, used chant (along with mind altering substances) to reach a higher level to converse with their deities.

The Satanic Bible is OK, but I don't think it's LeVey's greatest work. His better stuff came later... I'd say The Devil's Notebook is the best, in my opinion. It stays with the format of short-to-medium sized essays that focus on a certain set of points. Some real gems in Notebook.

I don't know if I'd agree with that. If I'm not mistaken, chanting can be a pretty significant part of divination, which can be delusional, but not always.

Is that biblical? Where do you draw that from? It is an honest question not an attempt to argue.

Chakra chanting (one term of many) is believed to transport yourself to the land of the gods in Hinduism. Native Americans and South American tribes (past and present) take hallucigenic (sp?) drugs and speed to increase their dancing and chanting frenzy to uplift them to their gods' world. Speaking in tongues (rapidly speaking tongues in Hinduism is a form of song, see Sheila Chandra) has been used in a variety of faiths often building to a great intensity.

So I do agree that it can be delusional. Especially when you need drugs to stimulate your mind to song and dance. But I also believe that some songs can give you goosebumps and make you more aware of whatever you believe in.

Not very many songs do it to me, but when they do, I'm in awe.
