the main thing...The Main Thing about Hendrix and all the other original electric guitar Rockers is that they had no one to go by except bluesmen, Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis. Not much to go on. THEY set the standard. THEY were the inspired ones. Everything after in Rock sound was a variation on this explosion of creativity in the mid Sixties.

Take SRV , I wonder if not for the inspiration of Hendrix where his guitar playing would have been.

There are a lot of people that can play like Clapton. But only HE is called Slowhand.

A lot of other people were inovators that really don't get the credit they deserve like Jeff Beck.

 

I think musicians know what Beck's influence is, but he was never a front man, so the public at large was oblivious.

And he never really joined with that sort of personality, partly because he is an asshole. When he played on Roger Water's solo record, I wondered how they refrained from killing one another.


I think your largely right on Clapton and Hendrix. They came up with this shit.

You have inspired me to add to the underrated artists, Reb.

 

Maybe not MOST overrated but they got a lot more print than I would have given them is Jefferson Airplane. They were in San Francisco at the right time.
