I would have to say Jimi Hendrix.

Sure, he was different. But that's it. Songs were bad, singing was worse. Give me Ritchie Blackmore, Jimmy Page, or even Tony Iommi over Hendrix.

    Slayer.

    Just kidding.

The Stones. I like some of their songs, and what they did for some old bluesman, but they lived off their rep without putting out anything decent for far too long.

To be overrated, someone has to rate them highly.

Have to give those bands credit. Without them, I might not have sought relief and found worthwhile music elsewhere.

Add GnR to the list, though.

U2 is mostly hype nowadays, yes, but they did put out solid material for ten + years.

Hendrix overrated? He only got on the scene for four years before he died. People are going to make him into a legend but I feel that's no more over-hyped than Jim Morrison or Kurt Cobain, and in the end the body of work Hendrix did as a guitarist alone far exceeds either Morrison or Cobain as a singer.
