His peers voted him one of the best Linebackers in the league by sending him to the Pro Bowl. That's gotta count for something.

Jeremiah Trotter was the starter for the NFC after being released by the Redskins, so that shows you a little bit about how down the conference was at middle linebacker last season. And player voting only accounts for a third of the overall total. But yeah, he had his only above average season last year, and that was off the heels of a Super Bowl appearance that undoubtedly expanded his visibility among fans, players, and coaches (people talk about how many tackles he made in that game, but never the missed tackles or bad coverage).

He has a 91 rating in Madden 06, so he's gotta be good.

fox loves him, golic is talking about what a good move it is right now on espn. its another situation where your opinion doesn't make the reality of his abilities at middle linebacker true or false, and its just plain stupid to talk to people in those terms. to be so invested in being 'right' is just stupid. nobody cares who's right here but you. nobody. we like to talk about it and learn, but we really don't give a shit who's right. and we really appreciate your knowledge and opinions, but the 'i'm right' thing is just a big pain in the ass, and a detriment to your relationships.

An odd thing to take exception to, but I'd rather argue about this than what level of "good" we can all decide Morgan's at (which could be as interesting as arguing at what level of "suck" we can agree upon for Branch [IMG])

Anyway, granted it's a matter of perspective, and you share the perspective of Morgan and Delhomme each being a non-integral part of the team. I agree in that Morgan's never going to carry you - maybe we had unrealistic expectations of how good he should be when drafted, sure. I do feel that Delhomme can carry you, and has. So I don't like the above parallel.

We're better with him than without him, to find middle ground between Collin and the people throwing tomatoes at him. But he's not what he should be, and was rewarded for a Pro Bowl season he didn't really earn. Am I glad we brought him back? Yeah. Did we need to, now? no. Next year would've been a better time, IMO. And I would've rather had Witherspoon of the two - he's probably about as good as he'll be, he's never injured, and day to day I'd take WW as being as good a linebacker as Morgan.

OMG... you shouldn't be allowed in discussion of this if this is seriously what you're bringing to the table. I like Morgan, but the argument hurts any defense for him.

I woulda felt much better about the contract if they'd have put a "Mexico Docking Clause" in it.

Mexico Docking Clause: Whereby, when playing middle LB against the Vicks, for every TD Mexico runs for-or levitates to- up the middle, Morgan is fined One Miiiilliiiiion Daahlars.
Every first down under the above scenerio by Mexico costs Morgan $250K.

Any other QB scampering up the middle for a TD just out of Morgan's reach- A year's paycheck.

Then I'd be OK with it, the contract that is.

Maybe in terms of PD's and Sacks, but in Barrow's 1st 4 years he averaged 5.4 tackles per game compared to Morgan's 6.8 tackles per game and Morgan's 5 interceptions compare to Barrow's zero. Not sure how you can look at 5.4 tackles per game for Barrow and 6.8 tackles per game for Morgan and say "never been as productive". That suggestions is simply wrong unless you want to disregard tackles per game as a measure of a linebacker.

I think if Dan is injured the next couple of years the way he has been the past 4, he'll be gone.

I like the deal. He basically gets a bonus this year, and another roster bonus next year, ( as long as he's healthy ).
