He is a good player and I think if he ever gets and stays healthy he will be considered one of the top ten linebackers in the NFL. That being said we are taking a big gamble on this. He may just as soon never be healthy for a whole season or even have his career cut short.

I could have caught that. It took no special skills, no special abilities, no anything except being in the right place at the right time and not screwing up. Now I don't mind people giving Morgan credit for the Super Bowl because he actually played well in that game, but singling out a play where Morgan just fell ass-backwards into an interception thanks to a great play by Peppers is ridiculous. Try picking a play where Morgan actually did something more than stand there and not screw up. They certainly exist, so go pick one of those and talk about it instead of looking utterly absurd by trying to pretend that Morgan was the one who made that play and not Peppers. As I said the guy who brought the play up already said that it was Peppers and not Morgan, so why in the hell are you still arguing? Because you're in love with Morgan, that's why.

#1) Morgan is never 23 or 27 yards downfield unless he has man coverage on someone. If he has man coverage on someone, it will be the tight end or running back, and it's highly unlikely that both are going to be running deep patterns in the same area. That means if Morgan is around, he was almost certainly the one who got beat.

#2) I have the f____ing game on DVD, genius. I just watched the plays again. Morgan got burned, but that's no surprise because practically everyone agrees that he's something of a liability in coverage.

Sure you did. Saying he's one of the best linebackers in the game and that he's worth nearly 6 million a year is equivalent to "the best thing since sliced bread." I don't have a problem with you liking Morgan, I have a problem with you saying something that is undeniably wrong. We can quibble about how good Morgan is or how well he does certain things within a certain range, but pretending that he's one of the best linebackers in the league or that he's ever earned anything close to his $5+ million a year salary is flat out wrong. And sure, you can say that you naively think he'll suddenly stop getting hurt and suddenly start playing well enough to be worth $5+ million a year, but until he actually does that on the field, it's still stupid to pay him that much. You pay for realistic expectations, not hopes and dreams.

Indeed. In order for me to respect someone else's opinion, it needs to have some basis in reality. And perhaps you'd care to note that anytime Magnus and I actually agree about something, the chances of us both being wrong are pretty f___ing slim.

Could you please at least bother reading what I write before responding? I already addressed the Pro Bowl selection, and noted that Jeremiah Trotter was named the starter at MLB last year after being released by the Redskins. 2004 was a horrible, horrible year for NFC MLBs, so there was hardly anyone to pick from, as opposed to the AFC where they had at least 10 MLBs with better seasons than Morgan.

And the 22 shot is only necessary to study how DBs perform on plays away from the ball. Try looking at a tape and telling me how many times you don't see where the middle linebacker is. I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't any at all.

Quotes from the Winston Salem Journal:

"We're a different defense with him out there. He's very important to us," Trgovac said of Morgan. "Now there's a comfort level for us - because you know your middle linebacker is going to be here for a while, and that's one of the hardest positions to train. He kind of runs the defense. To think you had to bring (in) a new middle linebacker next year was not something I would have looked forward to."

"Everything is a concern. But, you know, a number of other guys have been hurt before, too," Fox said. "It's just part of the game and something that does happen. You like to avoid it in his case and in the case of everybody else, too. He's worked very hard this offseason and so far, so good." Asked if he considered Morgan a higher risk because of his past injuries, which have included multiple concussions, Fox replied: "Everybody that crosses that line is at risk. That's the way football is, especially at this level."

I think a lot of people are getting their panties in a wad because of Morgan's injuries. The Panthers have worked on getting him concussion-free by working on the helmet issue (getting him one of the concussion helmets) and him wearing a mouthpiece to distribute the shock of impact when he tackles. If he gets hurt, it'll be from something stupid and not from a concussion.

Yeah, I know Trgovac and especially Fox wanted to keep Morgan around. Morgan plays hard and seems like a great guy, so of course they're going to want to keep him. But what have we seen about coaches influencing personnel decisions in the NFL? With the exception of Bill Belichick, it's been almost universally bad. GMs need to make their own decisions based on their understanding of production vs. cost.

And as for Morgan not having concussions anymore, the team said they had worked out that problem last year too by giving him a new helmet and getting him to play less recklessly, but what happened? Granted, players like Isaac Bruce had fairly substantial injury histories at the beginning of their careers and then got over it, but I have never heard of anyone who has been injured as often as Dan Morgan going on to be mostly healthy the rest of their career. Plus, we should get a discount just for taking the chance.

For reference, an article from this summer in Pro Football Weekly questioned whether or not we should even bother giving Morgan an extension based on his injury history, and estimated that he'd only get between 3 and 4 million a year at most as a free agent.

who gives a fuck what pfw guessed he'd be worth, and why would anyone believe their bs anyway. if he's healthy, he's well worth it. if he's not, oh well. everybody is a play away from their last one.

#1) So far Morgan hasn't been one of the best linebackers in the game when healthy, so no, he wouldn't be worth it even in that scenario unless he improves his performance.

#2) If you had a chance to go out with one girl who puts out with regularity or another who injures her labia every other week, which one would you go for? The fact that any player can get hurt doesn't change the fact that some players get hurt a hell of a lot more often than others, and pretending otherwise is ridiculous.

    in summary:

Damn Trash, I think you've just been elevated to to god status.

funny you should say this because i was just thinking this morning that if the two of you agree on something then i betting cuz the odds of either of you being right are slim and the odds of you both being right at the same time on the same subject have to be astronomical

Headache, in the past you used to be a generally affable fellow, even when I was rather rudely calling you a retard. What happened? Someone ran over your dog? Caught VD?
