10:42 PT: ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Pittsburgh Steelers have decided on which veteran free agent receiver they want and that man is former Falcons' WR Terance Mathis, who has reached a one-year deal with the team. Mathis will get a contract worth $775,000, which includes a $25,000 signing bonus.
10:23 PT: According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jerome Bettis (groin) has pronounced himself healthy at the end of the team’s spring minicamp. “I had a very good minicamp psychologically because I needed to have a good minicamp to feel good about getting past the injury being completely healed," Bettis said. "In my mind, that is behind me, totally."

it sure did take Bettis long enough to get over that shit. IMO, had he come back and pushed the Steelers up another game or two, he'd probably be borderline HoF already. Maybe if he busts out another 1500/15 he'll be there, but players that push their teams deep into the playoffs get notice.

I wish he had not come back for the playoff game with the pats, they were doing great mixing it up with Fu and Amos.

agree. But from a team standpoint you expect that your best player will come back and do something positive for you - not only did he not, but they stayed with him far too long. nah, Bill Cowher would never do that.

Bettis wasn't ready to return. He was tenative and layed down as soon as he was hit. The Steelers should have crushed the Pats. Sour grapes...

As far Mathis, if the Panthers didn't pick him up I am glad the Steelers did. He was a steal. He was the best WR for the money. Steelers should have a great season.

Just got back from Pitt last night. News reports suggested they were going with Moore. Hmmm.

Mathis brings the right attitude, and for a minimum deal that's something. When he comes in, they can move Ward to the slot, and not many nickel backs can match up with Ward.

  7. Hades must have just frozen over...I'm agreeing with Riddell, er, Cube! Mathis was a great pick-up for the Steelers. All my Pittsburgh sources still say they're looking at Moore - but for the Vet minimum - and for the Red Zone only. They liked the match-up problems he and Plexiglass would present defensive backs.

Harold Carmichael/Pat Fischer? Cowher=Genius? Nah, I watched (cried over) the Pats debacle. Bill B. outcoached him. Physically abuse the Ravens, and lose to a team that Cinci beat early in the season? Ouch.
