QCH, the likely hood of someone liking Waylon & Luther are slim, expecially for mood music...

Al Green "Lets Stay Together" - good stuff.

Van Morrison, Elvis Costello are a couple of white boys that can sing some good slow songs.

and Bonnie Raitt and Linda Rondstadt are a couple of faves of mine too

edit - and throw on a couple of Chris Issack songs too

Hey! I like Waylon Jennings but not for mood music, I mean yes for mood music but not good ol' belly rubbin' music.

Listening to Waylon Jennings and Willie and all them just makes me in the mood to get drunk and loud. :D

Then I usually start dancing which usually leads to..... Ahhhh, maybe I shold reconsider. :D :D

Sandy's on the right track - this type music is his thing - but I disagree on Chris Isaak. It's very good for this type thing.
Flying, I Wonder, Two Hearts, Wicked Game aren't bad mood music, but Baby Did A Bad, Bad Thing and Please and some of his others are either too twangy or not the right mood.

    Definitely, Getz.
D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, that whole Philly R&B scene you can't go wrong with.

Oh and Johnny Gill's My My My, Freddy Jackson's Rock Me Tonight, and Al Green's Let's Get It On is a tremendous grouping.
