I'm looking for a 22 or 24" flat panel monitor. Any suggestions or info?

I have a 24" Dell at work and that is the direction I am leaning but am curious about other brands that might be better value. I don't need the best but don't want anything noticably inferrior.

Most of them are made by the same companies Chip.

Most of the affordable ones are "TN" (Twisted Nematic) panels, including my Dell. The viewing angles and color reproduction are not as great as they could be. But then again, who looks at a monitor from the side? You'll pay hundreds more for a big/wide screen that is not a TN panel.

I really love the new Gateway 24" (FHD2400). "Hi Def". They have them at Worst Buy if you wanna see one. Not at all cheap, but super picture.

It's still 200 less than the one I have at the office and am considering for home.

If you mean the gateway, then go for it.

Do you have the model that runs around $400 currently and have silver buttons and the height does not adjust?

    My Dell

I'm happy with it, except that you can now get a bigger monitor for (much) less than that. If I were buying today, I might get a 24".

I used to have an older model TN panel Dell widescreen, but it fritzed and they replaced it with this. Looks like I was wrong about this being a TN.

Okay, you win. I am officially jealous.

BTW, these do rotate 90 degrees (more natural for webpage viewing). I hardly ever do that though. I use split screen more than anything else.

It's the one I have at work and more than I need but it's hard to go down.

i have the dell 2405 which is really nice. the first runs of the new 2407 were 6bit and faster, but people went apeshit over the banding, so they switched to an 8bit version.

any monitor you're thinking of purchasing, go around and read reviews of it. i like newegg's user reviews as a quick resource, but google around and see what people are saying.
