I think the owner of a multi million dollar company would have some idea he was writing a check for a 70 mill DE, 50 mill RB, 50 mill C and whatever else we did that year.

Nobody is trying to suggest JR is writing up these contracts. But he is OK,ing them.

 

Ugh. It's fine that you don't know that much about football. Who mentions in a eulogy that someone knew a lot about the NFL? It's not at all important in the grand scheme of things. The problem is that when someone corrects something you say, you argue as if you did possess that knowledge. Learn your limitations and embrace them.

Why would an NFL owner be judging the market for players at all? They're not the ones coming up with dollar amounts or even ballpark figures aside from telling the GM an overall amount they can afford to spend during an off-season. Owners don't decide that Player X should get $8 million per season or only half that. The GM does. Owners are almost never present for any negotiations or even the contract signing. The GM and his staff handle all that. Richardson's sin is in hiring incompetence and not removing them once their actions prove incompetent. Why some people like you insist on saying that he was responsible for those contracts is beyond me. He wasn't. When Polian didn't want to pay Kevin Greene, Richardson let him. When Seifert wanted to sign a bunch of free agents from other teams, Richardson let him. When Hurney wanted to ignore free agents and spend every dollar on players he drafted, Richardson let him. You need to learn what a general manager's role is because right now you clearly have no clue.

 

I'm sure Jerry Richardson was well aware of who was getting what kind of money, but the good owners let their football people (GM, HC, etc) make those decisions and stay out of the way. Unless you want Dan Snyder running the Panthers, in which case, fuck you.

The idea that Hurney never talked about his plans with JR (or vice versa) is laughable, that's why you are naive. Its not about whether JR wrote the contract or ran the numbers, quit being retarded.

You think Cam visited JR pre draft just to say Hi. Or do you think JR wanted to know the quality of man he was gonna take #1 overall.
