This is why I want to shoot myself.

That doesn't happen as often as you think. Clausen fell to the late second, Freeman fell to #17, Flacco fell to #18, Brady Quinn fell to #22, Aaron Rodgers fell to #24, etc. One quarterback usually goes in the top 10, but it's actually more common for only one to go that high than for multiple ones. The last two drafts were panicky, but that also means that more teams have a young guy now. There are only a few that high who would even be looking.

Not sure about #1, but most every team that high could use one except Detroit, Cleveland, and Buffalo. The belief that Lotulelei could play well as a 3-4 DE makes him appealing to a wide range of teams.

Apparently his 9 foot, 3 inch broad jump was also the worst of any linebacker at the combine and his 20 bench reps were among the worst.

The last two drafts were the first with the rookie scale.

    Jarvis

ATHENS – UGA’s Pro Day ..... reports were surfacing about how poorly Jarvis Jones performed in the frigid workouts on Georgia’s Woodruff Practice Fields.

The Bulldogs’ two-time All-American stumbled on his first run at the 40-yard dash and then was clocked at just 4.85 seconds on his second pass. Jones fell again during the linebackers’ pass skeleton drill and generally didn’t look fantastically athletic.

True, but it's not like QBs were the only ones getting ridiculous contracts.

I don’t see I as a guarantee a bunch of qbs go high but the risk of crippling your cap for years is more or less gone. Creates a situation where its easy to reach. We'll see soon enough.

I think this is key. If you dont have one, and need one. Can you afford to wait till round 2? The cost is not prohibitive.

Did anyone think Locker or Tannehill were truly worthy of going as high as they did?

I dont see how the Bills could possibly pass on one. Then you just need one more team to bite.

The cost is prohibitive since it means missing out on a far better talent. Plus, yes there will be guys available in round two. How much difference is there between the first and fifth best quarterbacks in this draft class? Why spend a top ten pick when someone you like almost as much will definitely be there for your second round choice?

Locker and Tannehill were both significantly more talented than any quarterback in this class. Geno Smith is about on the level of a Ponder. Gabbert is really the only completely indefensible quarterback selection in the last two drafts.

Because none of these quarterbacks has much hope of contributing immediately and Buffalo needs someone to help them contend right now.
