Lots of players do. Cam said himself that he wants to be an entertainer and an icon. Even taking classes at Auburn this summer was about his image. The reality is that you didn't see Andrew Luck or Russell Wilson doing a ton of commercials and celebrity appearances. You did see it from Newton and Griffin. Some guys see football as a challenge to be mastered, whereas others see it as a vehicle to fame, money, and women. But yes, you're right, this coaching staff failing to show leadership and push Cam to develop as a player is a strike against them and does hurt him in the long run.

A poor man's Fox, perhaps. Rivera's record is still one great season versus two dismal ones.

I know, but I was thinking that none of Fox's seasons were as bad as Rivera's first two. Funny how I block 2010 completely out of my mind. Still, I see no reason to think that Rivera isn't a below average head coach. One fun but ultimately lucky season doesn't change that.

    I don't know. Rivera hasn't been 2-14 yet.

Ron finally got wise and got a couple veterans on his staff (Dehaven/Skipper). Skipper has always been a strong guy to lean on for clock/situational management, an area this team improved upon in 2013. Dehaven, I would argue, greatly helped Dick Rodgers in the development of our best ST unit in years.

    I like Ron. I like 12-4.

I also like the fact that he doesn't appear to be playing nice about Shula - he yanked some play-calling duties away during the Miami game. That's a fact. His endorsement for Shula in the post-game presser was lukewarm-to-mute. Personally, after dealing with Fox's proclivity to make positive changes about 2-4 years behind schedule, I'm optimistic that changes will be made.

If Gettleman wants to move on from Shula, I don't feel Ron would put up a fight, nor would he have the leverage to do so.

Remember: Rivera is a nice guy, but Rivera isn't going to lay on the sword for coaches who don't perform. Brian Murphy.

I mean we ended up +7 in the Cuckold ratio this year. That's pretty good stuff.

Payton Manning makes a lot of commercials too.

So do a lot of players. And that's their right to do so, and it doesn't mean they take their jobs any less seriously than anyone else. They make money on sponsorships and such, and that's just the way it is.

Star athletes in general are hard to cheer for. Most of them are complete douchebags. Guys like TD are the only guys I have any personal affection towards.
