No, it's probably correct. Young and grizzled is a good way to go right now. As much regard as I have for Seifert, 1-15 notwithstanding (I think, honestly, I just blocked it out), and as much as 9er fans wanted him back, he's not the way to go. I don't think Gibbs was, either. It helps having a Gregg Williams on board, but Gregg wasn't that good a head coach. Sometimes it works and you get a Vermiel SB and then a Martz contender, but that tends to leave some old habits.

That is not how they are spinning it.

You'd expect a team to say that it let Terrell Owens, Jeff Garcia, and Steve Mariucci, and forced the team into a shitty coach, two shitty seasons, and ended the last dynastic institution in the NFL because of shitty management?

How can you tell if Erickson was a bad coach? Lombardi could not have won with the team they had this year.

Maybe it's because you're defending him?

He's a shitty coach. Really, really poor coach. He has no overall philosophy, he won with someone else's talent in Miami and that's great, but he's 20 games under .500 in the pros with under 100 games coached. That's really poor.

Simply contrast the way the two men (Lombardi and Erickson) communicate with the players/management/media.

The most important quality of a HC is assertiveness. Lombardi had it, from day one. Erickson is not exactly the best communicator, nor a beacon of self-discipline.

I only feel the need to defend him since he is being attacked without reason. 20 under huh? that means he was only 6 under coming into this season. He did a decent job with the Seahawks, he really got them in the playoffs if not for a bad call on that TD by Vinnie. Holmgren for all his past glory has not done any better than getting them in the playoffs.

He may not be the best coach in the world but to say he sucks after his team was gutted and then went 2-14 is pretty much a cheap shot.

It's not a cheap shot. People thought he sucked before now, too.
He never led that team, he never put them in one direction, much less shaping them up overall, and he had no less talent than Carolina did. Erickson just doesn't have what it takes, and you certainly haven't extended this type defensiveness about other coaches.

And honestly, you know you're just talking right out your ass when you say you know this coach or that coach couldn't do better.

Honestly I could care less about him, I just think he was set up to fail by the owner of the team and to say he sucks because of it is just piling on. You lose your starting QB, top wideout, most of your OL, and some other role players off a team that struggled and was below .500 then a 2-14 season is not a reflection of coaching ability.

So John Fox taking this team to 7-9 with Pro Bowlers on the sideline isn't a reflection of coaching ability?

The guy's bad. There's no arguing away how bad he is. Was the York family at fault for having made some mistakes? Of course. One of those mistakes was hiring Erickson because he'd come cheap.
