    In a word? Yes.

385 tackles. 10 sacks. 6 fumble recoveries. 7 interceptions. All from the inside LB position. He was an elite player on this team.

It was the first three years. Our early success brought a lot of excitement to the area. That was important. When you add the community involvement, leadership, and charchter of the man, the statue was more than deserved.

And I dount that's a minority opinion, really, for knowlegable fans back then. He was a great player.

I have been a Panthers fan from day one, while I repect your opinion I disagree with it, but that's the great thing about opinions, we're all entitled to them. I was OK with the Panthers honoring him but a statue was a little too much.

Edit.... Just for the record I don't think Minter or Kasay deserve one either.

Minter and Kasay aren't thought of as the same level of player.

Sam was ridiculous every snap. I have a hard time believing anyone else will matter to this franchise as much.

    :2 cents:

Recognition for off-field plus onfield = give him a statue. His actions off-field coud have had a significant impact on people who are not football fans. Recognition should be in a form that they could also enjoy PLUS it may grow a few more football fans. I don't care if BOA is surrounded by statues. It would only show the Panthers' involvement in the community.

Recognition for on-field play = Ring of Honor. Inside where the fans see it. In very rare occasions, retire the number.

Bottom line is it's the organizations decision whether fans agree or not. The story has been told yearly that when Richardson shows new players around, one of the stops is Sam's statue and they're told this is the type of player we want - play hard every down and be a good citizen. Sam's statue is what Richardson wants the team to be and that is why he's there.

Besides, if in 20 years (or less) we'll need a new stadium, we could make one of every retired player and not make it around the stadium before it was torn down.

Minter in a ring of honor? Are you serious? It takes more to get a statue than just to be in the Hall Of Fame. You have to be legendary status which is where Peppers or Smith are heading. They also have to wear a ring. The ring of honor is reserved for HALL OF FAMERS. The greatest to ever play a game for a franchise. Mike Minter has downright sucked and is the weak link on the defense over the past 2 seasons, and he was above average during the prime of his career but never great. Call me a cold heart but putting Sam Mills in the ring of honor is an absolute joke. Congrats, you had a couple good seasons with the Panthers and didn't even play most of his career with them. He had one great year in 1996 and then got cancer. I don't play the pity vote. He was a great man who had one great year as a Panther and some good ones and we give him the pity vote and put him on the ring of honor. What's next? Putting Fields up there for fighting cancer? Sam Mills doesn't belong on a football ring of honor for the panthers. Only Hall of Famers should be on a ring of honor and Sam Mills doesn't cut it. Ring of Honors are for all-time passing leaders, super bowl MVP's, NFL MVP's (maybe have to be multiple, or at the very least be a 5 time pro-bowler). You can't let joe blow Mike Minter on anything. Congrats, he played his whole career with the Panthers. So let's give him one of the greatest honors in sports. Putting Minter in a ring of honor is more assinine than retiring Dell Curry's number as a Hornet.

    You are a dumbass.

He got cancer 5 years after being put in the ring of honor.
He is a 5 time pro bowler and most likely will be a Hall of Famer.

    Think before you post.
