I think they clash. Summerall was very light and giving in his leeway to Madden, who is sometimes very rambling and often oversimple for a guy who most respect as an intelligent coach.

Michaels is used to having his run, and then having people comment on what he's saying. In other words, I feel like both are waiting for the other to play off his words, which leaves them all but struggling for the dominant power. Obviously the story goes on to mention that as well.
It just comes off flat. Possibly a generation gap thing? Possibly just being too comfortable in their own roles?

Miller made what was otherwise some pretty boring games, somewhat humorous. I enjoyed him.

why did they bring Madden back anyway? I love MNF, but i'm gonna be suffering each time he opens his mouth. It's just never gonna be the same.

Dan Fouts was great on MNF. I wish they would have kept him and teamed him with Madden. Of all the announcers I like, ex-players entertain me the most. I enjoy listening to a player discribe it the way he sees it, what's really happening during the play. I think Fouts was great at that. Miller was just fucking annoying and if he was at my house watching a game and running his mouth like that I'd kick his ass right out in the street. Him and Micheals can go down to Blockbusters and rent Dumb & Dumber on a five day rental and stay at Motel6 together.

I don't think the announcers deserve more press than the game itself. I didn't see the game, I watched a little, but I had already missed Carr so I tuned out after I got to see what Leslie was wearing :D

Maybe they both just had jitters. Maybe that's why they put a MNF on in the preseason, to work out the bugs. One does play-by-play, and one does commentary. It'll be the best thing since Nameth & OJ.

If they want to drive up the ratings, everybody knows sex sells. I still think the way to go is to have a guest star every week for the whole game. That would be great. They could have a star NBA or MLB player like Shaq or Ken Griffy, maybe even John Elway, Micheal Jordan or Wayne Gretsky. Get someone really funny like Dave Letterman, or a big movie star personality like Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, or Julia Roberts or Brittney Spears. That would drive up the ratings bigtime.

I think Madden and Michaels will be the best since Dandy Don, Frank, and Howard once they get used to each other, which I think was already starting to happen in the second half of the last game. I like Madden. I don't give a shit if the whole commentary is funny, I want it to be about football. And John Madden comes up with some funny shit, and he KNOWS football. Miller was OK, but I ain't gonna miss him. He was funnier as a football commentator than he was as a comedian.

Like Eric Dickerson? I always enjoyed listening to him because it kept my hope alive that I, BigRuss, could one day be a sideline reporter and do no worse than this guy.

But yes, Eric was definitely entertaining.

I'll take Dickerson over Miller anytime.

Dandy Don and Dick Butkus were the best. Michael's voice is irritating as hell.

Michaels also comes across as arrogant. I liked Fouts.
