    That's fair.

Respectfully, I see it differently. I think if you examine all of the DL/DE/OLB types taken in the later rounds you'll find that a strong case can be made that Michael Sam is a better value.

Furthermore, keeping in mind that Michael Sam is gay, GM's and HC's have to take into consideration what effect having Sam in the locker room is going to have on their respective homophobic teams. My guess is that it is specifically this reason as to why he was chosen late in the 7th round and not earlier.

Only one other DE in the last five years had a combine as bad as Sam's. He was an all-American and went undrafted.

    Who was it?

Have any other players had a bad combine and still got drafted, or should bad combines only apply to gay athletes?

It's a distraction having him on the team. If he were really good they would deal with it. He is average so why bother

And that in its essence is the problem.

What that he is an average player or the distraction. Kind of like the HBO series Hard Knocks. Most coaches don't want any part of it due to the distractions

Bottom line. Even if he didn't use his sexuality to get attention, he'd have fan clubs and there will be all kinds of extra reporters hanging around and bothering the other players. I'm so glad we didn't fool with that mess.

I guess it never occurred to him that he could have told any team that interviewed him, in private, that he was sexually attracted to males.

Do you folks think he would have drafted higher had he stayed quiet? I don't. I mean I read where he was at best a 5th rounder. His wanting the world to know he was gay probably cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars in contract money but probably will garner him some endorsements in the gay community

Oh yeah my tongue was firmly in MY OWN cheek there.

Paul, NFL would have known even if he tried to hide it. IMO.
