nevermind I googled and found it... I don't have a Media Center PC do you? If so what kind because I've been looking at them. Is it hooked to your good TV?

I was thinking as long as you had a pc somewhere on your network you could access the files from it with the xbox media center. My pc is upstairs and I would love to be able to play my music on my stereo which is downstairs through my xbox. am I wrong?

I could go into the long and complicated setup I built a few months ago for a friend/customer.

It involved a "music server", displaying on his lcd tv, and pulling files from another machine upstairs and playing them through the optical out on the Audigy2 to the receiver. wireless mini-keyboard with builtin trackball was used.

yes you're wrong. Its an adapter that communicates with a computer running Windows Media Center edition. You can then share movies, music, and files via that. Some companies create some sweet Home Theaters with Windows Media Center Built in. I'll go see if I can find some of them for ya.

Theyve been doing this for a couple of years with modded Xbox's running a linux kernel, and a larger hard drive. Xftp, a custom Linuxbox dashboard, etc etc.

Takes some work, but it's pretty cool once all setup.

I can do that with my hacked box, but I didn't install Linux, just Evox. Weren't that hard. Had it for about 2 years now. I'm surprised M$ took this long to create a legit version.

You don't need linux or a bigger hard drive to do this. All you need is a modded xbox (~$50 for a mod chip), xboxmediacenter (download for free) and your xbox connected to your pc (hardwired or via awireless router). I have 100gb+ of music and movies on my pc upstairs and I can access all of it on my xbox downstairs.

    Read here for more info.

I didnt say you needed it, just said they've been doing this for a while with custom setups.

xboxmediacenter is a cool app though.

Just be careful not to log into Live with your mod chip on/installed.
