agreed. The players are responsibile for execution.
But coaches are responsible for players, and execution as well.

I'm not saying fire the guy, but I'm not going to stump for him as bad as we've been, either.

the defense this year was staffed with a bunch backup-level players. you get what you pay for. the fact that munnerlyn was a starting cb is proof of just that.

The fact that Munnerlyn was expected to be a starting CB is what annoys the shit out of me. Injuries happen, but the defense was set-up to fail by Hurney not bringing in any significant talent besides Ron Edwards.

I think the lock-out hurt more than most want to think. There are a few elite teams, not sure how SF did what they did but there are a butt load of 8-8 teams. Alot of teams that probably got into the playoffs because of this, Denver for one. we were bit hard by injuries and lost alot when Beason went down. I'm willing to give the coaches a pass for this year. Some of the guys I hope we have next year. Shirley and Nesbit but I think we have to have a solid guy in the middle to keep guys off the LB's. It'd the time to vent, voice your opinions but look at it this way. We have been to the NFC championship game 3 time, one Super Bowl in 18 years. Before the Panthers we had the Redskins and Falcons. It could be worse.

which is why our hands are pretty much going to be tied into going defense this draft.

There were more than enough problems, absolutely. If I'm stumping at all it's to reserve judgment given the circumstances.

At this point I still trust Rivera and believe if he thinks McDermott's the reason the D sucked, something will happen. For all I know he's all over McD's ass in private. Or not.

With you on Rivera. I'm not actively looking for McDermott to go, and I think he's a good coach. But I'm having a hard time seeing results in some places.

What's frustrating is that he's a DBs coach, Meeks is their position coach, and that's looking like as bad a spot as any, without the injuries.

Not necessarily. It depends on where the FO wants to go. They could decide based on who's avaialble to make the offense that much better. Say your pick comes up and you have to decide between a stud at G or a mediocre CB. Even if need is greater on D, if you could improve an already good offense more or just get a body on D what do you do?

IMO I'd just continue to build the offense. Yeah defense is nice but the league is geared toward offense now, change with the times.

Been meaning to bring Meeks into question, our DB group had more than their share of WTF moments. I wouldn't be surprised to see something happen there.

I'm probably alone in this, but I think overall the defensive backs played admirably considering our front 7 is as wretched as it is.
