McCants not returning for senior year

    KEN TYSIAC

    Raleigh Bureau

Wing player Rashad McCants, the second-leading scorer on North Carolina's NCAA champion basketball team, will not return for his senior season, coach Roy Williams said Tuesday morning.

At a news conference where he accepted the Siemens Trophy given annually to the national champion coach by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, Williams said McCants informed him in mid-January that McCants probably was leaving.

Williams said he will discuss the futures of Raymond Felton, Sean May and Marvin Williams with those players soon. Felton and May have just completed their junior seasons; Marvin Williams was a freshman on the team that defeated Illinois 75-70 on Monday night to give North Carolina its fourth NCAA title.

McCants averaged 16 points to help the Tar Heels finish 33-4.

UNC will lose 3 of their four NBA caliber underclassmen IMO. They can still be good if Felton is the one that stays. If he goes they will be bad next year even if Marvin or May stays.

IMO, the writing was on the wall a long time ago. Did anybody notice last night when the Carolina players were celebrating on the court that most of the teammates were hugging each other, then they would show Rashad, on the most part, by himself milking the moment on camera for all it was worth?

And then Roy said in the postgame that it was a "TEAM" effort? :wtf23:

whatever, let the kid celebrate. so he was holding up his jersey for the camera. its not like he had it turned around backwards so it showed McCants.
and it was a team effort last night. May, Felton and yes McCants collectively helped the team win.

Look at Roy's record in Kansas, they rarely tumbled to be bad after players left. The man obviously knows what he is doing ang just guaranteed induction to the hall of fame. With this win it just got easier to reload year after year regardless of who leaves, just like Krzyzewski can.

What he has coming in this year isn't great and what he will have left isn't even good....if all 4 leave.
