I do not think there is any civil way for the religious and athiests to carry on a discussion about religion. We can discuss moral values, but that is about it.
Reminds me of what I was taught by my parents-not that I paid them a whole lot of attention-"If you do not have anything nice to say, don't say anything". Which pretty much describes the direction of this forum about athiests.

It all depends on intent. If either side's intent is to exact some measure of judgment or vengeance on the other for some past wrong, then I agree with you. But that principle isn't limited to religion. Could be anything. If someone's pissed off all the time at someone else's guilt by association, I agree with you -- it's just about impossible to stay civil for long.

But if the two sides are comfortable and confident in their beliefs and hold no animosity toward each other, there's no reason there can't be a civil exchange of beliefs. It all boils down to a choice, really, just like in any other discussion.

The only person that seems to be having problems in this forum is you. Of course, you have made it your stated goal not to behave in this forum and are generally condescining towards any opinion that does not agree with yours. Although you are obviously intellegent, you do not engage in intellegent exchanges. IMO, you are doing these things so as to prove to yourself that all those that disagree with you are hostile.

You seem to block out teh parts where you have quite a bit to do with bringing on the hostility.

Hasbeens: Please feel free to edit or delete, but please know that post was not made in anger or to hurt miss tery, but I have simply grown tired of her constant pursuit of victimhood.

So what type of religious beliefs did your parents have that you were raised around?

No need. You said nothing she hasn't said about herself, and you did so in a polite manner. Thank you. :)
