Maurice Clarrett...Heisman

Discussion in 'Carolina Panthers' started by Tiorted Snoil, Sep 16, 2002.

  1. has anyone seen this guy? I was impressed after Texas Tech but man...what he did against Washington State. He's the first true freshman (although he enrolled in the winter term last year) to start at tailback for Ohio State since WW2. 230 pounds, can make you miss or run through you..and run away from you.

why not the heisman? no one else is stepping up and claiming it.

I see it as a race between Benson, Dorsey, and O. Smith right now. Heisman is so much about hype and campaining. Won’t give it to a freshman.

  3. that's the thing, no one else is having a heisman type year. those guys are hardly doing anything spectacular. Clarret has been the main reason why Ohio State 3-0 (with only one cream puff). Since Ohio State is playing 13 games this year, he should break 2,000 yards.

He's averaging almost 8 yard per carry but is not one dimensional, he can do it all....run, catch, block. I saw him picking up blitzing LBs on Saturday, when he hit them, they went backwards.

Whoever was doing the game (Danielson?) said he looks like Earl Campbell (who many think should have won the heisman as a freshman).

If he keeps performing, the hype will come. He's already moved onto many of the writer's lists.

It wide open right now. Leftwich is still in it despite the loss and no one has really jumped out as an upper classmen. Clarrett has been very impressive - but I want to see him against the Michigans of the world before I give him the Heisman. Washington State's rushing defense leaves a little to be desired. As does, Texas Tech.

Well, Benson had 200 yards on the ground. And as long as Miami wins, Dorsey’s going to get votes. It’s more about politics. I mean, Crouch???????

Apply that the Benson too. Carolina's run defense isn't good and North Texas doesn't strike fear either. BTW: Chris Simms has nice stats so far doesn't he? :p As much as everyone bashes him, he has heisman #s so far.

Who knows, but I think it will come down to which team gets it done the most. Dorsey isn't worthy right now, but if they continue to win he will get the votes (as you said Piper). This will be a close race but as Piper said, underclassmen (esp Frosh) don't get a sniff usually.
