Marvin Lewis wasn't the right man for the job afterall?

Why do you think that is? I guess time will tell. He certainly has some talent, but I don't think it's enough. I think Lewis blew his chance to be a Head Coach for any team.

maybe he doesn't want those players?
maybe he doesn't expect to stay long.
maybe he wasn't integral in choosing those players.
    Who knows.

Right. Not enough info to really tell.

On the other hand, Y2, he never got hired as a head coach, so did he really blow a chance?

They may not have gotten former Ravens, but they’ve collected a fine looking defense on paper.

yep. getting trotter alone is a big step, and with a signing of that magnitude it wouldn't change Lewis' own ability to acquire players and still prevent anyone from saying that he's been sandbagging.

i think he'd further his resume MORE by repeating the defensive output of the ravens with non-ravens.

I think going to the Redskins, with an unproven HC, and by leaving the Ravens, especially the way he did, he blew his chance. I don't think he'll ever make the Redskins D so good that he'll be as an attractive HC. If he would have stayed in Baltimore, he could have been a HC next year no matter what that defense did.

Yes, the Redskins Def looks good on paper, they have for years. Which is more reason why Lewis could have set him self up to look "average" at best and blow his chance for a HC seat.

I disagree. Losing Sharper, losing Adams and Siragusa, losing both safeties (What happened of Harris?) and a corner, they didn't lose their best but they lost enough. Still having Lewis, and putting Boulware where he can best help, those are good things. Ed Reed and Anthony Weaver were guys I absolutely loved, and should fill some of the hole in the secondary and DL.
But it won't be enough, and between losing the players they lost, and losing Del Rio and Asst. HC Steve Shafer, Lewis didn't have much incentive to stay. I don't think he could have been as successful. But I don't like that he went where he did, either.

Right, which is the perfect excuse for the defense to struggle, not ruining is value as a HC canidate. Failing in DC, with what looks to be good on paper, could dramatically kill any chance he had.

They haven't exactly lost Sam Adams yet have they?

I don't see them having the cash to get Adams back, and I don't think he was happy about being cut.
