This isn't about the 50-50. It is about being able to document easily who spends more, makes more, contributes more, etc.

She didn't think the money she spent on clothes, hair cuts, manicures and pedicures, etc was a big deal. If it had been coming out of her account it would have been.

Then don't get married. Just live with a chick and keep everything separate. I'm sure you did your share of spending.

Geez, nobody ever heard of a budget. I think having separate accounts is just an indicator of problems in the marriage. If you've got to "hide" money then you've got a trust issue. If your wife or husband spends too much money, you've got a budget issue and respect issue.

If you've got a budget you agree on and live within your means there should be very little to fight about concerning money. I do the bills in our house and my wife and I do a budget together every month for that month. We each have a little slush fund for just crap and we check with each other and the budget if we want to make a purchase of more than say hundred bucks.

It may sound stupid but I've found marriage to be a team sport.

Easier said than done when one player on the "team" simply refuses to abide by the rules.

At that point its time to ask for a trade.

I must second the suggestion for separate accounts. Then again, I'm prejudiced.

I know what you mean. We've had our share of disagreements about who gets what when but when one player skips the rules that isn't a problem that separate bank accounts is going to fix.

If you're talking trade or cutting em' watch out for the cap hit. Those pro rated bonuses are a bitch.

Separate checking accounts but we are joint on each others account. I also have all of our large savings and money market accounts in my name only. I pay all the bills she pays for all the groceries, meds, and chips in on the bills as needed.
