I don't buy into the act, or the average death metal trap, but some of what they do is both interesting and catchy. I can appreciate their musicianship, when they show it. But yeah, some of it's out there just for the sake of doing so.

    Re: Maralyn Manson

It's all an act geared towards stirring up controversy.

Don't get me wrong, I was with a band quite a few years ago and we played the New South Music Showcase with them before they were signed. They were still Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids back then. They are freaks. They used to carry around Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle lunchboxes and claim it was their power source.

Manson's a very interesting guy. People are often shocked when he makes appearances and interviews and they see that he's relatively level-headed and well-spoken. I can't say I admire the drug use and I certainly don't share his fashion sense, but he's a good musician and talented performer. His material shows the interesting parallels between religion and the media. The tortured martyr bit becomes repetitive at times, but Manson remains a unique and noteworth artist nonetheless.

His autobiography is a very interesting read. The new album is pretty good as well.

the only song of his I had heard prior to buying the album was Dope Show which I liked. I had heard that if you like 80's metal bands like priest and metallica, you'd probably like manson so I bought it. I was actually a little surprised, I figured he was just some loon going for shock value and his music would probably suck but it is actually not bad...good work out music.

I got the impression that he is a modern day alice cooper copycat....

    Pretty much, boo.
Dope Show and Beautiful People are very good songs. There's a decent song they did with Sneaker Pimps, Long Hard Road Out Of Hell.

Alice Cooper is one of the godfathers of "shock rock." King Diamond, Manson and others all share his influnce in some form or fashion.

Hopefully I'll be meeting Cooper this August at the Horrorfind III Convention in Maryland. Doug "Pinhead" Bradley will be there as well, as well as Traci Lords and numerous other cool guests.

My vote for the most evil of all time is ronnie james dio. I don't think it is an act for him.

Isn't it true that most of the kids that have shot up their schools and classmates were manson fans?
