If you are willing to take chump change as your salary, then you too can be a champion. I have no problem at all with that sacrifice.

To be honest, I'm a little surprised this hasn't happened more often. A player takes less money to be part of a winner. Gee, what a novel thought. How old school of them. Once upon a time I think a person actually had to win something before he signed a $90 million endorsement contract. So winning - or proving that you are good - once meant the chance to make the REAL bucks a few years back. Today, you just go "max out" in a losing city and then complain about not playing for a winner. But as long as you have that shoe contract....

Ok, so I'm rambling now but y'all get the point. Why 5 good players haven't colluded like this before now is beyond me. Aside from placing winning below bling-bling, of course.

it doesnt matter with that team. I could see them winning 75 games if they wanted to. Im sure thet will win a ton of games just to get the home court next year. That team will have plenty to prove. GP and Malone are ring-hungry, Shaq should be less food hungry and in shape, Kobe, lets wait and see on him.

Payton's made his tens of millions. He wants a ring, because that is how greatness is mesured. This isn't the first time a player has taken a pay cut to get glory. Magic took pay cuts to keep Worthy and others around. Neitehr Bird nor Jordon were ever the highest paid guy, even though they were clearly dominant in their prime.

 

ah ha! piper nailed it again! hehehe yup. payton and malone want a ring and they will get it. too bad stockton retired without one. he most certainly deserve it.

the spurs better beef up and get deep.

nba has always been fun to watch IMO. the lakers will give us lots of excitement next year.
