Mail, I'll assume for the moment you know that Phillips went to Nebraska. This means I have no idea what Johnson is like off the field. Is he a problem like Phillips was?

Uh, and how many Heisman's has Bama had. Dat's right.

Larry Johnson isn't Carter or Dozier or anyone else for that matter. He has a lot of talent and is no more a bust candidate than McGahee or any other back. I'd take him if he was the best left on the board. LJ is a power back with nice agility. He seems to see the field well and can go the distance if he gets in the secondary. He is also one of those guys that is never satisfied with his performance - which is nice to see. Oh, and he catches the ball well too. Whats not to like??

If you liked William Green last year - IMO, you have got to like LJ. He is a lot like Green in build and top speed but has a bit more agility and can execute the cutback quicker than Green. This guy is a bigtime playa. Reminds me of Lawerence Phillips without the attitude. Make no mistake, Lawerance Phillips had top shelf talent and everything you look for in a back. To bad the guy was insane.

We worry about TEAM awards, not individual awards. How many has UNC won by the way? Or is UNC not your team in football?

looks like we'll be picking in the top half of the draft (8-12), do you think he'll be left, and do you think he's more of a need than QB/WR/OT?? lamar looks to be gone, and dee brown could turn out to be a solid change of pace runner with about 10 carries a game. LJ, if he pans out, could complement our running game well... intriguing...

I would expect McGahee to come out and either (or both) Johnson or McGahee to be there at our pick. That said - Johnson is worth that pick and with our offensive system makes a lot of sense. We need bigtime RBs to win consistently IMO. 1 isn't enough either. I'm not opposed to getting a QB a little later as a developmental type. If Fox wants a running team - then draft a runner and some freak'n blockers and lets win with defense and ball control.

    This would be weird huh...
What if we take Johnson and then take Simms in round 2??
This team would look scarily like Parcells Giants teams that won a couple SBs. Larry Johnson, Simms and Boston as offseason additions wouldn't kill me at all.

How much better is a Ragone than a Simms?? Simms, for all his abuse, has been a very good QB this season for Texas. I don't love the guy but he could work here.

If Foster has any chance of being healthy, we can't take LJ with the first pick, or the second for that matter. We have other needs, like QB, WR, CB, OL. Besides, the RB FA pool looks better than the QB FA's.

shocker, i agree with y2 about foster's health playing a role in LJ. however, i do like your "plan." simms, by many, just needs to be a little more polished. but, as y2 mentions, the FA stock is high for RB's, while QB's is very mediocre. i say we trade down, get a late first rounder and an early second rounder for our pick- we can draft a qb, a solid WR, and OL.

yep...If we take a rb then Foster will be healthy. If we dont, Foster's career is over. It's just the Panther way.
