Mai Tai

Got a serious craving since being back from Hawai'i so I went out got the stuff and made some.... Yum!

1 1/2 oz. Dark Rum
1/2 oz. Cointreau
1/2 oz. lime juice
splash of almond syrup (orgeat)
splash of grenadine
pineapple juice (or pineapple-orange, or P-O-G from Hawaii Passion-Orange-Guava)

In a tall glass with a handful of ice add: Cointreau, lime juice, orgeat and grenadine
fill the glass with the pineapple juice leaving room for the rum
float dark rum on top.

-- stir before drinking, the rum on top just looks cool, but you'll drink all the juice before hitting the rum if you don't mix it.

you could also add garnishes, pineapple spears are traditional, also could add lime wedge and maraschino cherries.

Also could use light rum for part of the dark rum... if you do this add the light rum with the first ingredients so that you can still float the dark rum.

I used Pineapple-Orange juice and they came out great!!

last night was Mai Tai Monday at the bar we were at on Haight St. My first and most likely last one. Then we moved on to Sangria, damn my head hurt this morning.
