Mack Brown - You'll never win a National Title

Coming from a pure Duke fan perspective, I didn't get the feeling that UNC fans were going to settle for 8-2 or 9-1. Of course they'd happily settle for that now, but back in the day I remember a lot of fans unhappy with the 10-1 Mack put up. I guess it's analagous to Gutheridge's Final Four runs? You never know how well you've got it until it's gone.

First off, anyone who has a chance to put himself in a much greater position to succeed for himself after putting in ten or so long hard years building a program deserves it.

Melvin Watkins left UNCC after having taken the reins of a program that was shit for years but was finally starting to go somewhere. He took them to a level and bolted for somewhere else. At the time I was a big UNCC fan, but I didn't miss him. Shit happens and coaches with names go to big schools when they can. Coaches travel and coaches move. It's what happens. I don't fault anyone for leaving a program if they feel they can advance and be at the level to take on a Texas team and have success with it. Mack has. One championship a year is awarded and both in college and NFL, plenty of great teams never won. It's the ultimate goal, but Tom Osborne would have been just as good a coach if he hadn't gotten in on that last luck championship and Mack Brown will be a quality coach regardless of what a few UNC fans think.

He took the bigger challenge with the bigger program and he's been rewarded.

    >>as long as mack can recruit, he has a chance.

Exactly. Probably one of the top 5 recruiters in the nation, and has built that program to be bigger than Nebraska's I'd figure.

He doesn't belong in the NFL, I'll say that much, though he'll probably welcome the challenge (he would seem to be a fit with Jacksonville in a few years) and wouldn't really mind giving up Texas to get a pro shot. It wouldn't be a thing for him to spend three years in the pros and come back to college with a pro mindset and he'd end up more successful in the end. But no, he doesn't belong in the NFL.

    >>You really don't know shit about football do you?

He may or may not. It's not for me to say which but I think we know where I stand.

The biggest problem here is that Sandy leads with his heart and lets the rest follow to be exposed. He'll probably only speak up about things that are near and dear to his heart and I've found that if I try to discuss and analyze with a clear heart and a fuzzy mind I sound stupid.

I only saw people getting blown off the line while that dude ran for 200+ yards. Why hold when you can knock your guy down?

I agree. But call them stupid... several UNC Board members and high ranking contributors were OK with his departure.

Yep, I usually do. All I can say about that is usually with football I am about 50% with my predictions etc...for whatever that is worth. Looking at how the silly boys at ESPN rank fantasy players each week (for money) - I have no shame in my predicitons.

Personally, I am further in my career than my dreams... based on my background, education, etc... there is no job I would rather have. I have two beautiful healthy girls that love to play sports and a wife that puts up with me.

So whats the moral of this story? I'll stick with leading with my heart every single day of the week. And if it makes me look stupid or not in the know when it comes to football talk... thats ok. We all have different priorities in life. I'd rather be where I am personally than take football so seriously that being wrong really matters...

Texas has been there before... Mack has not brought them anywhere they have not been before...

I don't dislike Mack... I just don't think he is a gamer. His talent won last night, not his coaching, which brings me to his weakness... he'll choke when challenged with equal talent in the big game...

Actually that's not really accurate. Texas was a weak team for years before Brown got there. It started just before he got back, but they weren't powerhouses until he got there.

So is a coin. What's your point?

    >>So whats the moral of this story?

Apparently that you're willing to go through every phase of life the same way, not considering that some situations require knowledge more than they do raw emotion.

I lead with my heart in life but I wouldn't lead with my heart in football. I take it too seriously to just half-ass and talk out of my neck and then still expect to be taken seriously (you do, else you wouldn't get so damned defensive). Life decisions are one thing, facts are others. I base my opinions based on fact and at the end of the day, if I sound stupid, it's because I made a wrong decision based on what was out there, rather than just hoping that my gut based on biases and preconceptions was going to be good enough.
