Here is what was on the official site:

    Panthers rescind offer
    to QB Lytle
    May 21, 2002

The Carolina Panthers have rescinded their contract offer to quarterback Matt Lytle, the team announced Tuesday. As a result, Lytle becomes a free agent.

Lytle played three seasons with the Panthers, starting one game last year at St. Louis. He originally joined the team in 1999 as a college free agent from the University of Pittsburgh and spent part of the 2000 campaign with the Seattle Seahawks before re-signing with Carolina.

In three games in 2001, Lytle completed 17 of 30 passes for 133 yards and one touchdown with three interceptions.

As far as Ryan Leaf.....I doubt it. They have 4 QBs on the roster as it is.

I don't get it. On the other hand, saves them cash, and he wasn't going to be their guy. Still, competition/depth aren't bad things.

Yea, but we knew Lytle would be gone on draft day. So we have Fasini, Peete, and Weinke. Pretty damn strong if you ask me!

what happened to having a weak bench and needing competition? :D your neck must be pretty sore from the about-face.

I said ok, you convinced me other wise. And I never thought of Leaf as competition. I don't think Weinke needs competition, never have. I would like a stronger back-up though. But hey, Heisman winner, Prodigy of the Henning system, and the Best thing since Elway out of Stanford. Defensive coordinators are scrambling now trying to..................stop from laughing.:D

No, just kidding. I think this will definately open the door to drafting a QB next year in a high round. Hopefully we've answered the RB question, and we can look at a QB for the future.
