I really don't think he was saying that, if injuries or whatever hit Cincy or Louisville, the 49ers could be in the hunt. Personally, I just want to stay out of the 4/5 slot for the conference tournament regardless.

    my 2 cents............

Within the walls of his office, to say the goal is a top 4 finish is perfectly acceptable. Without a doubt, Lutz is smart enough to realize that will get his team back to the post season.

However, I don't like hearing "top 4" stated publicly because it give the media the opportunity for headlines like in today's paper, "49ers aiming for top-4 finish". The media's spin on this type of comment makes the program sound satisified with just being better than most of the teams.

I would've rather heard him say something like "Our goal is whatever it takes to get back to post season play".

I'm sure that is what he meant, if he say it that way or not. Fourth place would likely guarantee a post-season bid.

Personally I just want to stay of of the 4/5 slot in C-USA, #5 has to play that extra game vs. #12 and then the #4/5 game BEFORE taking a crack at #1. Otherwise, you can maybe slide into the championship game.

As usual? Hardly. In this case, sure. Thanks for pointing out my error.

But I guess my question to you stil is, "What would you have him say in that situation?"

I mean, I am sure that some people asked Bunting the exact same question before football season, and if he had said that he expected to compete for the ACC championship, I would have said he needed to get his head examined. I'll have to check on Fox's quotes to see what he had to say about his expectations.

as a coach I would NEVER concede anything. I would of said we expect to be near the top...........not "our goal is top 4"

Just about every sports team I played on finished 1st at some point, and I don't think that is the proper thing to say.

Metro wants to Fire Bobby, too

First you turn on Judy, now Bobby. There is no satisfying you. Some men you just can't reach...but Metro wants to reach out and touch 'em, and grab 'em, and hug 'em anyway.

I never turned on Judy, you gotta be in her corner to turn on her, I never have been.

turn on Bobby? hardly. He's the best. I just didn't like the quote.

    how was your weekend coward?

I see your point. I guess it depends on interpretation.

Maybe Coach is playing the underdog role. Whatever it is, I hope it works.

    My Expectations:
    Top 4: meets
    Top 3: exceeds
    top 2: sensational year
    1st: best since 1977
