just got back from the grocery store and read nearly every label...not much there I can eat

I'm looking at the DASH diet because of my high blood pressure. Low in sodium and high in potassium. Basically EVERYTHING in a can is loaded with sodium UNLESS it says NO SALT. The recommended daily allowance is 2,400mg and a can a green beans for example is 390mg per serving...that works out to 1,365 per can

I went to Subway, thinking Ima eat something good for me...6" Chicken Teryaki Sub with Sweet Onion sauce....1,100 mg sodium...not counting the jalepenos

grilled some chicken at home...thinking i was eating healthy...my BBQ sauce 1,090mg/2 tspn...I used 3/4 cup on a whole chicken plus extra legs...I ate about 7 pieces

i don't even want to know how much is in chinese food

everybody knows the calories you get at mcdonalds...

    big mac...1,010mg sodium
    ff's...390mg sodium...
4 ketchup packs is another 400mg
    anybody salt their fries?

A chicken ceasar salad there with dressing has 1,080mg of sodium

low fat italian dressing...360mg/2 tbsp...how much do you put on your salad?

anything that's labeled 'Lite' or 'Low Cal' has more, sometimes double the sodium....

guess that's why they call it the "silent killer"

from what I read, sodium is the leading cause of high blood pressure...1/3 of Americans have high blood pressure and 2/3 of the ones that have it don't know it...get yours checked today....I'm down to 138/92 on average....120/70 is ideal...your doing great to be >130/>80.....at my age, my weight, and my blood pressure, I'm 6x more likely to die from a heartattack, heart failure, kidney failure, stroke, etc... in 10 years...I'm almost 39 years old

arteries get harder, start losing that elasticity and the pressure for the heart to pump goes up...works harder...leads to all kinds of things...including kidney failure...it's some serious shit...like the saying goes, serious as a heart attack

anyway, I made a nut mix with pecans, walnuts, raw peanuts, and dried fruit like figs, dates, bananas, and blueberries...pretty good...bought a lot of frozen veggies, lean meats, fruits, healthy cereals...

it's hard to eat fruit 4-5 times a day for example, but cutting out food high in sodium leaves me hungry all freakin day...

I don't figure to cut sodium completly, but now that I'm aware of how much there is, I'm changing my lifestyle to eat less of it...and my kid is going know as much about it as I do as she grows up

also gatorade has double the sodium of powerade...at 120mg/8oz

    diet sodas have more sodium

and next time you eat a steak, A-1 sauce has 280mg/tspn, Worcestershire has 50

unsalted butter has 0g, country crock has more sodium than jelly...icing has more than the cake,

search what you eat at http://www.thedailyplate.com/ it has all the nutritional facts of practically everything

UMM I'm thinking fresh veggies and fruits, but I know we all sprinkle too much salt on that stuff.
