dear God, it scares me to hear people say this... do you people know what your body is doing when you are in ketosis? i have seen all sorts of literature stating that short periods of ketoacidosis is fine. i call bullshit on it and so does every doctor i have ever spoken to. hell if losing weight were as easy as setting down the bread don't you think everyone would be thin?

try doing some research on renal faliure and how thin you'll be when your kidneys stop functioning...

true, sort of. the average person eats 400% more carbs a day than their body requires. ever look at how many carbs are in a reese's peanut butter cup? the same amount the average person would need for a main meal...atkin's has good points but pushing a body into extremes is not the way to go.

WTF is your point here?? A Reeses cup has a shitload of carbs?? Well no shit!

You really should read more about the physiology of this type of lifestyle. Clearly, you don't undertsnd it. Often, doubters really don't take the time to understand ketosis and what it is physiologically. Confusion about ketosis often comes from people mistaking it for ketoacidosis, a condition found in Type I diabetics; this occurs when a person's blood sugar is out of control and he or she cannot produce insulin. No doctor should have trouble differentiating physiologic ketosis, which you will experience while doing Atkins, from ketoacidosis. Further, since people are often overweight specifically because of an overabundance of insulin, it is essentially impossible for them to be in ketoacidosis.

I certainly am not the one to tell anybody how to lose weight. But it seems to me that if a person wanted to then they would watch their calorie intake.

if you can keep from cheating go on the "Sugar Buster" diet,, that means you cook for yourself,, killer great diet that lets you eat whole grain carbs, meats and veggies and natural sugared fruits,, and you really drop weight without really knowing you are on a strict diet,, damn good eatin

if you can't trust yourself go on the Nutra System diet and have your main meals sent to you and you get a two portions of half cups of fresh veggies,, plus free salads and low fat dairy

portion control and eating the correct carbs is key to not starving yourself and acutally being able to stay on the diet

I only did this for a few weeks. I lost weight the first two weeks then it stopped. I do not know if I let my carbs get too high or if my body adjusted to it but either way I lost motivation.

I am still working it though. I am not doing anything formal just trying to cut back on my portions. I am not sure if I am losing any weight and really it does not matter right now. I am just trying to change my habits.

I lost 79 lbs in 6 months on Atkins
doing it the right way no processed meats no can foods no sugars no starch no bread
If it was not in the book I did not eat it

I keep my 79 lbs off for 2 years and at 50 years old i have the energy of my 20's
My Cardiologist keep a close eye on me and it improved my Diabeties and CHF so much that he went on ATKINS and lost 40 lbs

As stated before in this post NO MATTER which diet you go on

If and when you start cheating and going back to the old ways
    the WEIGHT will come back

    There is no perfect diet

Good luck on your weight loss
