Have you noticed any psychological changes in your moods, behaviors? The only time I tried this way of living, I was so moody and hateful that I couldnt stand to be around myself. Yes Fred, it was worse than normal.

The best way to lose weight again is simply by decreasing your intake and increasing your output. 2-3lbs per week is about all you should expect or want to lose. After one year, you've lost 50-100lbs if you need to. Otherwise, the body hits its own ideal weight and shape.

i did it for 9 days, i jonesed carbs like i jonesed dope.

5 small balanced meals, complex carb, a protein and a veggie or fruit, per day and 30 minutes of exercise per day with a heart rate at 150 is the only sure fire to change your body shape while improving your overall health picture.

People have been after some quick-fix to lose weight for years. Watching your caloric intake and increasing your activity level is too difficult for most. I know it is for me. I've just decided I don't give a shit anymore.

True...but unlike fad diets, the low carb eating regimen bannered by Dr. Atkins, represents a complete lifestyle change...initially, its Induction phase, is a fad diet that will cause you to drop weight pretty quickly. The maintenance phase is really what the whole thing is about...you determine how much carbohydrate your particular body needs to maintain your weight at your current metabolic rate.

The premise has been around far longer than Robert Atkins. It is based on the fact that simple carbohydrates (processed sugars and carbs) are man-made and wouldn't occur in nature.

Here is the thing. I think people mess up on this diet when they think they can just eat mounds of bacon and stuff. I am not doing that. Basically I am eating the same way I was eating before I went on the diet minus the sweets and breads. I am not eating more meat than before. I still go to Wendy's it is just now instead of fries I get a side salad and I do not eat the bun with my burger. I have tried before and failed but now I am doing better because I am using portion control along with restricting carbs.

Exactly!! Leaner cuts of meat, get plenty of fiber, and choose naturally occuring carbs for the carbs you do eat and this eating plan makes sense.

I think that is the key piece I missed the other times I tried and failed. This diet means you cut out foods but not replace them. You can not stop eating the bun with your burger but at the same time eat twice as many burgers as you would before. I am also eating stuff like green beans, mustard greens, salads and pretty much any green vegitable and not really counting the carbs in them. I do not think all carbs are the same. You body absorbs them at different rates so even though a vegitable may have the same number of carbs as a candy bar it will not have the same effect on you.

I do not see how the diet could be hard on my kidneys if I do not increase my protein intake while on the diet. I basically look at it as a low calorie diet that still allows me to get enough protein to prevent me from losing muscle.

And replacing all your "white flour" products with whole wheat, processed vegetables with fresh or frozen, fruit in heavy syrup with the real fruit, etc etc is where this diet really tries to take you if you can see past the "induction". But putting your body into ketosis will not be good for the long term effect of the diet.

You hear a lot of varying opinions on "ketosis". I have heard it is simply a by product of your body burning fat. If that is true would you not produce ketones when you lose weight regardless of how you do it or with any diet? I have also heard that those who say it is harmful are confusing it with "ketoacidosis" which is a different thing that is indeed harmful.

One thing that I know is good about this diet is that it forces you out of eating so much convenience food. Burgers and fries are hard to do on this diet. Candy bars, chips, and all that stuff is gone too. Most of those things are full of stuff that is bad for you so that has to be a good thing.
