I've never been a fanatic about the show, but IMHO, the ending was extremely well done. I'd put it in the ballpark with some of the great series finales of all time.

dang. you catch that on first run? went right over my head, but maybe if i'd watched the recaps it would have been fresh. that changes everything then.

did he really look out for his own interests tho? that's the puzzling thing. in the sideways world, he was clearly looking out for alex. and he seemed, in general, more kind to others. i'd like to think that his character's redemption(s) were legit, but maybe not.

Yep, I actually caught that. I'm kinda pissed that I missed the appendectomy scar thing when he got stabbed.

I do think Ben had quite a bit of redemption. I think Ilana "saved" Ben mid-season when she invited him to stay when he was escaping to join Smokey. Ben's character was, to me, always about self-preservation and control. His alt-verse self with what he did for Alex was about the only time we saw the character give instead of manipulate and take. Looking back, I can see the Dr. Linus character of the afterlife showing what he'd learned from being Hurley's #2.

If Hurley and Ben protected the island for years and years and years how were they at the church before Jack? How were all the others (the ones that escaped on the plane) and lived longer than Jack at the church before Jack?

Time isn't linear in the that particular version of the afterlife. Christian explained to Jack that some died before and some long after Jack's death. Using that, I'm sure that everyone could be there when it was time for Ben to move on or when Michael was finally released from the island. It's one of those the afterlife is what you need it to be kinda things.

Are you trying to make sense out of a show with Smoke gods and island protectors and 3rd alternate realities?
