    Here's my guess.

Everyone or at least some people on the island are psychic in some way. Some more than others. The smoke is a psychic who has either transcended the need for a physical body or can leave their physical body.

Either that or it some sort of force that the people on the island shape with their own psychic abilities.

What's up with all the black people on the show? Is the island racist or something?

When those two random people went with Locke to the Pearl station I thought they were dead as a black guy in Star Trek. Wonder who that guy in the camera was. He looks kinda like Locke

That reminds me; the best part of Lost this week was the introduction of a new hottie.

    Lost Producers Explain Death

Lost executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof told TV Guide's Michael Ausiello that this week's death of a major character was planned all along. (Spoilers ahead!) In the Nov. 1 episode, Mr. Eko (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) met his demise in the clutches of the mysterious smoke monster.

Cuse told Ausiello that Mr. Eko was never long for this world. "When Adewale came on the show, he didn't want to make a long-term commitment to a series," Cuse said. "We love him, and so we agreed that he would come on the show, and then we would find a time in which his arc would come to an end. And we sort of felt after a lot of conversations with him—most of which took place at the end of the spring last year—that we would finish his character somewhere in [these first] six episodes. And as we started talking about what was going to really help the drama of these six episodes, we thought, 'Well, this is the perfect place to do it.' As we said, we all kind of went into this [with the idea] that it was only going to be for a limited period of time."

As for rumors that Akinnuoye-Agbaje had strained relations with the rest of the cast and crew? "We don't really talk about anything other than the creative decisions made on the show," Lindelof said. "If you're hearing it from other people, you're not hearing that from us. Not to mention, we're in L.A. So we would never let that kind of thing determine the creative direction of the show. We're all in the service of the story." Lost winds up its first six episodes of the season on Nov. 8 before taking a 13-week hiatus. It airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. PT/ET. [IMG]

yeah, but keep in mind that it's also simply good story telling to have people complete their story arcs before leaving. remember the black chick and the old white guy? their story ended and they didn't die, they just aren't in the show anymore.

i like how the new couple has sort of made a point about being new. "c'mon you always complain about not being included" was a great line. i was kind of curious how they'd get new people involved -- whether they'd have to cull from their extras or just have people pretend like they'e been ther all along. honestly, i don't know which they did with these two but my guess is that they're new.

edit: guess i should have kept reading.

PURGATORY. The 'others' are agents of the afterlife who hope only to get people to heaven. They try to set them up for situations where they have to make the right choice. They are the good guys, as they always say.

What has Jack really done that was so bad? He wrongly accused his father of sleeping with his wife but if you weigh that against all the good he has done as a doctor then it is hard to see him in purgatory.

Everything he's done he's done with selfish intent. Currently, he has to save Ben unconditionally. He's being tested by the blonde, who doesn't really hate Ben. Ben is likely not even sick.

What has Locke done? He gave a kidney to save his father.

He did something to wind up in that wheelchair. More is being revealed about people's past. It just gets worse and worse for everyone. I hardly see Locke's past as being one of high moral integrity.

Hurley never hurt anyone that I can tell.

    He is a glutton.

What did Micheal do before coming to the island that was so bad?

He failed to take responsibilty for his son.

He certainly did bad stuff while he was there. That got him to heaven?

That's a tough one. I have to say that he went 'home', or to 'heaven', just like Ben told Jack he did.

Eko went to hell. He died as soon as he settled on never repenting. They couldn't help him. He had the chance with the agent that posed as his brother - and he failed.
