i was thinking about that, but i think she's real. it would have been fucking awesome to have a character go through a few episodes before you realized they weren't actually there, but i don't see this being the case with libby -- people have already reacted to her.

once hurley started talking about dave, i was thinking he was imaginary and then the first scene with the basketball players ignoring him clinched it for me. made the first half of the thing a little anti-climactic, but i like how they added the libby twist.

libby claims to be a clinical psychologist. is she full of shit?

libby is hanso/dharma/oceanic. all of these people have someone manipulating their paths leading to flight 815.

 

i can't help but think along the lines of donnie darko -- unexplainedly weird pseudo-mystic-science. i think everybody we've seen on the island are equally at a loss to explain things, only the "others" have been there long enough to set up shop... altho, i can't figure out why they want to pretend at being savages (fake beards and shambled garbs) -- maybe it's to prevent people from trying to find their stash of technology.

and what the fuck is this whole vaccine thing? and who is "he" that keeps being mentioned? the others all fear him.



henry talking about the magnet sound seemed a little far-fetched to me. what the fuck does a magnet sound like? i think it would be best described as a hum unless you knew it was a magnet, which implies he knows what the score is. or it could just be a writer not thinking things thru -- it's hard to tell.

 

I remember something being said on the show at some point, I think that it was on the training film, about some magnetic something or other. When the clock wound down before, there were some strange noises and it did sound like something was being powered up. Maybe Henry said what he said because he knows that it is a magnet and yet he is feeding them disinformation for some reason. Possibly to get them to not input the numbers and when that happens the experiment as it currently is is over and there is a reset or it releases everyone because it flat out does them in. As far as who "he" is it is probably the rich dude that was in the training video and he is pulling all the strings, could be the devil.

 

'henry' also made a comment about god not being there, not seeing them.

 

yeah, i think henry knows it's a magnet and knows they know it's a magnet, but he's playing dumb "sounded like a big magnet!" would certainly sound plausible to them. but then, the heiroglyphics thing... he doesn't necessarily know they saw them - in fact, locke is the only guy that DID see them - so i dunno, that seemed like an extraneous bit to throw out there if it was false (and he was just assuming they pushed the button like they were supposed to). unless, that is, they know everything about when the button is pushed and who is pushing it... oy!

 

Remember, Walt or someone communicated with Michael via the computer. So someone is connected to them somehow through that network. Kind of a Pavlov's Dogs thing going on with the button I suspect, except they don't get treats.

 

yeah, eko certainly brings a level of religion to the show (with the whole baptism thing, in particular). that god reference from henry might have been a big clue (like the island is purgatory) or it might have simply been a way of saying this place is just fucking crazy and normal rules don't apply here. if it's purgatory, then i'd be a little disappointed -- that seems like too simple of an idea. "they're all dead" turns the thing into the world's longest twilight zone episode. interestingly, the manuscript that hurley was reading earlier in the season was written by a guy who's name is an anagram for "purgatory".
