Fred, being a true Christian begins and ends with being a disciple (or devoted follower, if you like) of Jesus. Period. It has little to do with church and absolutely nothing to do with America, contrary to what many in this country believe. I've just about gotten to the point that when I see a cross superimposed with an American flag, I almost want to vomit.

Then again, when I take a good hard look at my thought life and even some of my words and actions, I'm equally sickened at the evil that still lurks within my own mind.

Regardless of what anyone else says, does, or implies, whether or not you're a Christian is defined by your beliefs and attitude toward Jesus -- not some vague concept of a "higher power", but Jesus of Nazareth. And that's something only you can determine. But know this -- the Bible gives stern warnings for those who have been taught the gospel and discarded it in favor of their own merits. (Hebrews 10)

why not? as long as you're willing to pay the premium it shouldn't matter who you put on your policy.

i guess they're ignoring the part about being judgmental. only god has the divine authority to judge how a person lives thier life. the bible says so...unless you ignore that part.

Unless they condemn all sins, then Fred's got a leg to stand on. I don't find homosexuality to be a worse sin than anything else - at best, a minor issue.

    Wrong.

Sexual orientation is NOT a preference. I don't care what they Bible says about it.

I never said these were basic human rights BECAUSE the government said so
 --only that the founding fathers recognized them as such.

And what makes you think I'm unhappy? Because I debate issues that I believe matter? Au contraire! I'm a very happy human being, generally speaking. I consider myself--dare I say it?--BLESSED :D

Condescension noted & dismissed--I know where my quote came from

You assume way too much. I am NOT an atheist. I've discussed my spiritual views in multiple threads. But even if I was an atheist, I wouldn't find it necessary or intelligent to dismiss entire documents just because they included a religious reference. That's narrow-minded & foolish--neither of which I am, most of the time :D

That is my point Fred. You do not place the Bible as a higher authority. Most christians do place it there. For christians to be what you want them to be they have to make a fundamental change. Like I said would you really respect them if they did do that?

Kitten - As far as the non-judgemental aspect. It is true man should not judge others. However, the bible judges the sin of homosexuality. When you agree with the judgement God makes in the bible you are not judging but simply agreeing with God's judgement.

Mags - Most churches I have been to condemn all sin. They do not single out homosexuality and give a pass to more socially acceptible sins. They preach against adultery, cheating, lying and lots of other stuff too.

If all Christians could be what Fred wants them to be, there would have been no need for Jesus.
