Let me get your collective opinion on something.

I'm currently visiting several churches trying to find a new one. In the meantime, I dont know what to do about tithing. As of now, I'm just keeping track of what I should be giving with plans to give all of it to the church I settle down in. To me that seems more sensible than giving a rather large check to whichever church I happen to be visiting the Sunday after payday.

Am I wrong about "holding" my tithe until I've found my church?

Don't give anything until you choose the church that's right for you.

Give it to a non-profit helping agency. If you have any qualms about that, read Isaiah 58:6-10 and Matthew 25:31-46.

You may prefer to give to a local helping agency, preferably faith-based, or you may want to give to something international, like Compassion International (there's faith-based groups for all kinds of causes).

Edit: You're not wrong if you choose to give a lump sum once you join a church. The importance is that you give of what God has given you back to God (see Luke 12:13-21, 33-34, for one of many examples).

Find the right church first, and then tithe what you've saved. You doing the right thing Big Mark :) . . .

Hey, have you checked out MOSAIC CHURCH by chance? They meet at AMC CINEMA-NORTHLAKE MALL right now I think. Its mostly 20-30 year olds. The pastor was originally a Muslim but became a born-again Christian several years ago (he is originally from Kuwait). I think I saw him on Danny Fontana's Show on INSP several months ago talking about his conversion and becoming a pastor.

    Pray about it

    Mark,
Paladin is right on the money (no pun intended). Your heart is in the right place since you feel burdened to be obedient to God and give. You're not wrong either way you go, the only pitfall I can think of is if something comes up in your life before you settle into a permanent church then that tithe money could end up being spent on "emergency" matters. Just a thought. Pray about it and do what the Lord lead you to do.
