your first question goes unanswered -- "what is life?". you can't attempt to figure out how it got here if you can't describe what it is. it seems your pondering consciousness moreso than life, as plants are alive, but certainly not thinking beings. and what about single celled organisms or even viruses? are virsuses alive or are they tiny machines? and if they're tiny machines that can self-replicate, why is it impossible to think that we are just much more complicated versions? especially when you consider that our means of replication is pretty mucht he same as viruses (dna).

and why can't the same questions about life be asked of god? that is, what is he? who created him? what was there before there was god? is he alive?
