I was only funnying. I'm not down on Dave Matthews, per se; I just "can't understand" the enthusiasm generated to go hear Matthews. Now if Dave Holland(whom I freaking missed the other night@$#@#%^#@!)or YoYo Ma, Dewey Redman- someone that could "blow his nose":D was in town, then I'd raise a boner.

Now, with all due respect and while this is definitely good common sense as well as the status quo, it's a crock of shit.:D Some of us are into creating art; which albeit is screwed up, but nevertheless a fact. The poon tang and bread are the side benefits. :) We often fall between the cracks.

    Don't ask; editing/mind fucked up...:D

dude! I would raise a boner if YoYo Ma came to denver, and I'm a chick. I would love to see him in concert, although I doubt that I would be able to afford it. I just get psyched when dave comes to town (which is only once a year). there aren't many bands that I would pay $50 or more to go see.

oh now. I was joking with ya! kind of. :D but I hear what you're saying. I think in the long run you can tell which musicians are in it for the money and which ones are in it for the art.

There is in fact an artistic side of it. Until you start playing funk. Then you bullshit about writing songs and all that shit and never do.

And I have in fact seen a number of jazz artists for the improv ability. That DMB is an improv band is of course interesting to me, but it's as much for the fact they're playing songs I know and like. It's not like Leroi Moore's the shit - he's just good. I don't really care much for what others have to bring improvisationally at all. I do like that someone's putting improv over strong bass and tight drums, though.

But compare it to seeing a known jazz artist? Different things.

I do have to say that an annoying thing of going to DMB is seeing the neo-hippies singing over the PA and clapping off beat and asking me what Boyd's playing, both when the violin is on his shoulder and when he's picking it.
