Are there any tequila drinkers here? I recently tried my first Patron Gold and am hooked. Someone here enlightened me and this stuff is good . Is there a big difference in the gold and silver? My wife wanted to make a margarita out of it and I about shit myself. No way in hell I would want to put something like this in some mix. Cuervo Gold for margaritas and Patron for sipping. Any other name brands anyone would like to suggest?

Dollar for dollar, the best tequila you can buy is Sauza Conmemorativo Anejo at $20 a fifth. Tastes as good as Patron Anejo, at a third the price.

As for the differences in tequila types, the blanco or white tequila is not aged in charred barrels and thus does get any color or taste from it. Reposado is the mid-level tequila which is blue agave tequila aged up to six months in barrels. Anejo is the top o' the line stuff that is aged at least a year, usually in used bourbon barrels. This gives it its darker color, richer and more complex taste. You can make drinks with the blanco and reposado, but shouldn't with anejo...it's meant for sipping either at room temperature or with a single ice cube to cut.
